[have a ~*smiling face*~ looking at you, dear friends.]

Hello there, residents of the Thor.

Well, it's certainly been an interesting few days. I didn't expect to enjoy being on the ship so much, but the different races I've found are fascinating, and there's so much to do here. I'm not sure I'll ever get bored again. I've always wondered what ( Read more... )

Exotic genes? Like what?

Anything, really. It's ignorant to think humans are the end-all be-all of design in the universe; it should prove interesting to see just how they differ from our own genetic codes. Perhaps I can even inspect their evolutionary pasts.

Huh. I don't know anyone like that. With special genes, I mean.

No? Perhaps you do; genes have the mysterious ability to show nothing and yet hold everything within them. Who knows? We could be walking around on this ship with people who could, in theory, move metal with their minds, or perhaps read the thoughts of others. It's all written in their genetic code, but you'd never be able to tell from sight.

You have a point there. Do you have unique genes, Professor?

Perhaps.

Do you?

Well, I can sense souls?

I would certainly deem that 'unique'.

What, exactly, does seeing souls entail..?

I can distinguish someone's personality just by looking into their soul. And I can also locate anyone from a near or far away distance.

Fascinating! I've never heard of a mutation like that. It's almost a form of telepathy, it seems.

Mutation? Oh, no. I'm not a mutant or anything.

[that made him laugh.]

But of course you are, my friend. Mutation took us from single-celled organisms to the dominant form of productive life on the planet.

[oh, frick. well, she'll get the point.]

Everyone is a mutant.

... When you put it that way, I guess you're right.

Simply put, you are a mutant, and your mutation happens to be much more fascinating than, say, someone who has webbed feet.

It's not ever as bad as it sounds.

I just never thought that I would be a mutant. When I think of mutation, I think of someone being a mixture of something else.

Where I'm from, being able to sense souls as long if you're a Meister is pretty common!

Perhaps that is your species' specific mutation, then! It sounds like a fascinating one, to be sure. I've never heard of someone being able to sense souls before. Perhaps telepathy comes close?
