So I've been contacted by a slightly confused student in India, who is pursuing his bachelor degree. Apparently he came across one of my papers, and wants to pursue a summer project under my guidance. He's assuming I've got a PhD and my own lab. What cell phone and service to get ...
My parents are thinking of signing up for a new family cell phone plan. I have an irrational desire for an ocean. At the moment, however, I don't use my phone for anything other than talking (I'm cheap), but gps maps and stuff would be occasionally useful. I also have a preference for small phones, which don't really exist in the US ( Read more... ) -
Teas
I'm looking for specific recommendations for herbal teas (no caffeine), and stores to get them at. I've been happy with a number of rooibus teas that I've picked up, but I'm nearly out of my current tea. The biggest restriction is that the tea can't have rose hips in it; I occasionally seem to have a strange reaction to tea containing rose hips ( ( Read more... ) -
Steel boning
Does anyone, by chance, happen to know of a sewing/fabric store in the bay area (preferably south bay, but I'm probably willing to go up to Berkeley or San Francisco if need be) that carries steel boning in small sizes? I'm looking for 1/4" by 3" or 3.5", but I'll take 4" if I can't get anything smaller. -
Awareness
Playing in a Metro stationI think I would at least look at the musician. For most musicians, I usually look at them and listen long enough to decided if they're any good. My criteria more recently on any sort of street performer is 'are they interesting enough for my dad to draw ( Read more... ) -
And somehow...
So our party seemed to have gone well. It didn't seem like much food was eaten, other than the fruit and the chocolate in the fountain. But much drinks were drunk. And somehow we managed to end up with more alcohol at the end of the party than at the start. -
That's a truck not a car...
Today I saw a spoiler on a truck. The bed of the truck. Just over the tailgate. Bizarre. -
Smelly
Our lab used to be a chemistry lab, as evidenced by the spigots labeled 'gas' and 'air' on one side of the lab. The lab also has two drains on the floor. For whatever reason, these tend to smell aweful on occasion. Our usual solution is to pour water down the drains until they stop smelling. This occurs every few months ( Read more... ) -

The Computer Science Department at Oakland University is having two summer research programs. Applications for both are due Mar 21.
