Day in the Life of Garneteve - Day 4

So I went into the city today...Brisbane that is. I parked in the Myer Centre, which is the main part of the city, lots of retail there, and walked over the bridge to Southbank Parklands.

**

This is a photo of Brisbane, coming from the south-west side. Hey! Still on the wrong side of the road :)

**

The Treasury Casino. I've been here once or twice, and it is HUGE! The amount of people that gamble and play poker machines, and blackjack and blah blah blah! There was a steel drummer Jamaican guy out the front playing when I walked past. He had dreadlocks down to his ass. :)

**

Aparently, they call this "Art"?!

I call it "someone leaving their balls out all over the place, swaying in the breeze...COVER UP BEFORE YOU OFFEND SOMEONE!"

**

At Southbank, they are celebrating Buddha's birthday. It starts tomorrow, and I'm going to be taking son along I think...I wonder what his bible-bashing grandfather will think of that??!!

**

We also have a few man made beaches here too, with a wonderful view of Brisbane...oh yeah...makes me want to live here!

**

While at Southbank, I got myself an icecream (more on that later, because this is SO what this photo is not about). But I went a different way than I usually do.

I came across this Nepalese temple. Well, the guy you see standing there, was a guy giving a tour, but because I was the only one there and didn't walk away as soon as he said "hello", he gave me a tour. Talking about the three different levels. It cost a huge amount to make, and was commissioned to be made for World Expo 88, that was held in Brisbane. It took 2 years to make, and includes 1,000,000 work hours. It was all crafted in Nepal, then shipped over to Brisbane to be finished off. The families that crafted it, got a fair amount from the commission, from what I was told.

So I went to Southbank on the 20th Anniversary of the Opening Ceremony of World Expo 88.

**

The tour guide went through all the stories behind the temple and what everything signifies. Not knowing a lot of the religion that this temple is for, it was a huge lot to take in. This photo is what is above the main door. It depicts Buddah in his "enlightened" meditation state (?) The Garudas are also there, and he went into what everything meant and symbolised, even the "oom" symbol below it.

**

Another photo of what is above the doors...two of these are on two sides of the temple, where there are 6 doors. Sorry for the blurriness.

**

This is inside the temple. I felt very strange walking in there and taking pictures, but I asked if it was okay with the guide first. This is on the roof on one side of the temple. It's probably within reaching distance if I were to raise my hand to the ceiling. Again, it depicts Buddha in his "enlightenment" meditation state. The Garuda, and his "aides" are there (can't remember what they're called), aswell as Phoenix....

**

...And Dragons.

**

There are 6 struts on each side...front and back depict the same, and left and right depict others. These are Hindu gods I believe (?) Correct me if I am wrong, please. They depict the many forms of Shiva (spelling?).

**

So the third level, right at the top, again is Buddha...and the scenes carved at the bottom of each of those struts depict the Kama Sutra.

**

Beautiful....

**

Brisbane, right on the Brisbane river. And what photo post would be complete without "the feets"

**

From top to bottom, clockwise on the bag...milk bottles, chicos, pineapples, strawberries and cream, and finally, dusted jelly babies. YUM!!

Clockwise: Mini Cheddars from UK.
Candy bracelet.
Edinborough Rock.
Pastilles from Holland.
Sherbert straws.
Tooty Frootys from UK.

**

So, that's my day. I slept like a log last night, believe me!

I think next photo post will be random stuff yes?
