In which I indulge my love of statistics and spreadsheets

Belated end-of-year postSo, in 2014 I wrote 130,000 words, of which 100,000 were fanfic, and of which around 65,000 actually got posted. (Because when I count how many words I've written, you can be damn sure I also count the words that got written and then edited back out again ;) There are also a string of unfinished stories in that unposted 35, ( Read more... )

It's quality not quantity that counts, and I for one LOVED your dS fic! I think I bounced up and down in enthusiasm in the comments of both your long stories (and elsewhere on the internet), but if I did not, allow me to do so again. dSSS is fun like any challenge but if RL gets in the way and it is no longer fun to find time to join in, I think everyone understands that and would never want a person to feel bad about it.

And I loved your Holmes one too - just perfect ACD style and all the love they can't show in public just shining through, oh my heart.

(Also, cool graphics!)

Yeah, graphics are fun :) And thank you for what you say about dsss! I felt horrible at the time, but yeah, if I were looking at someone else who had to drop out, I'd completely understand.

Hey, I am glad you liked that Holmes fic. Thanks! Holmes has always been my first love… I keep going back to it.

I'd love to see you write more again, but honestly? You're a really good writer. I wouldn't worry about writing less due to catching a serious case of real life for a while. Just get back to it as soon as you find the time. :)

Aw, thank you! I think my muse definitely has a sweet tooth, just like me :) (In fact I have much too sweet a tooth… chocolate addiction! ;D )

Statistics FTW! You even had diagrams in yours. \o/

Also, I still have your dS Big Bang fic saved up. I have this delayed gratification thing where I put off reading things I'm looking forward to. But I will read and feedback eventually. : )

Hey, I'm doing almost the same thing with yours! I have a special long-fic-saved-up-for-long-evenings collection on my kindle ;) Actually you mentioning your fic in chats was the first I'd ever heard of the Temeraire series, and I didn't really understand what it was… I believe I was confusing it with Dragonriders of Pern. I came across it again just this week in the context of the Age of Sail/Patrick O'Brien fandom. Something I must look for at the library, I think!

I do recommend the Temeraire books! They're a lot of fun if you like 19th century stuff + fantasy worldbuilding.

See, statistics can be interpreded to mean many things. I interpret those graphs to mean not that you didn't write enough last year, but that you didn't write enough Holmes fic. ;) (The world always needs moar Holmes fic, right?)

Anyway, if you wrote 65,000 words that were pure gold, as I think you did, then you're waaaay ahead of the game.

I know you've said before that RL hammered you pretty hard toward the end of the year. I do hope it gets better this year.

Aw, thank you.

2014 has started out pretty well, thanks! Hope it has for you too.

Yeah, for my part, at least, I certainly always need more Holmes fic :) Thank goodness for acd_holmesfest and holmestice! The latter has been a pretty good source of canon fic too this round.

GRAPHS.

So funny the way your words go plummeting down at the end of the year. Bummer, but also hilarious.

To 2014, and most of our goals being met!

Yeah, it is kind of funny actually, isn't it? Like: October - hmm, is this a slippery slope? November - *gathers pace* December - aaaargh *slides of the end of slope* :D

I did the same thing in December, zipping off the deep end of writing commitments. Nope!
