A while ago I decided to watch as many Holmes adaptations as I could get my hands on. I've been writing them up here on LJ, and I've been progressing pretty slowly. So far only managed

I've seen part of the Case of the Silk Stocking. I must have hit eject on the DVD before I got to the really gruesome part, though. First off, I really disliked Rupert Everett in the Holmes part. I thought he acted like he was perpetually smelling something bad. Secondly, I really really dislike Ian Hart as Watson. (For the record, I also disliked him as Watson in the Hound with Richard Roxburgh.) I thought he and Holmes acted as if they hated each other for as much of the film as I watched. I disliked it so much that I quit part way through. Luckily, I had only borrowed the DVD from the library; I would have hated to have paid good money for it. Silk Stocking goes down on record as being my least-favorite Holmes film to date. I'll take Nigel Bruce any day over this lemon. My hat is off to you for slogging through as much of it as you did

Hah, yes, exactly. That hits the nail on the head.
I found it on youtube, thank goodness, so I didn't have to waste good money on it either. Though actually when I watched that dreadful Holmes+dinosaurs film just afterwards, it made the Silk Stocking seem, relatively speaking, halfway decent.
I just watched a couple of Howard episodes. So much fun! I really like both Howard and Crawford. Played for laughs, of course, so one can't really say they're completely in character, but the essentials are there. I watched a rather poor filler episode called the Shy Ballerina, and then a pretty good one called Case of the Blind Man's Buff.
P.s. actually it was you who first put me on to the Howard episodes, if I remember correctly. I watched a couple on youtube a while ago after you'd mentioned them, I believe.
The pacing on the Asylum film is all wrong for it to come back around to good again, and Holmes is too bland, as well. But there are things I will forever love it for, like the cockamamie "how do you think economics even work!??" revenge plot, and my spending the entire film saying to myself, "They obviously know nearly nothing about canon, nor do they care, and that's fine, but surely they know his name is Sherlock??" It's too badly-paced to enjoy watching, bit it's a film I love having watched, and I took perverse glee in re-adapting it for Elementary.
I haven't seen that much Howard, but I confess to being gobsmacked that the Christmas Pudding case gave me actual feelings.
How was the Lost World adaptation? If it's the one I think it is, I have it, but haven't made time to watch it.
I still haven't watched the Lost World adaptation either, actually, so no idea, I'm afraid.
I haven't seen the Christmas Pudding case either, actually, so will probably put that next on my list. The Howard episodes are so variable in quality that it's hard to pick out the good ones!
