Almost a year's worth of fic

A couple of weeks ago I posted about some nasty pains that suddenly appeared in my hands and wrists. It hasn't got worse, thank goodness, though I was pretty scared it would. It seems to wax and wane, sometimes even disappearing... I guess it's going to be something long-term, but not completely disastrous, i.e. I can still work, and with the help ( Read more... )

It sounds like you might have a touch of carpel tunnel or even arthritis, both of which I have in both wrists. As bad as my hands get, somehow, I muster on.

If you are of a mind, something that has worked very well for me has been acupuncture. Just a few treatments and my carpel tunnel is as good as gone. It works pretty well on arthritis, too.

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear about your wrists. I'm very glad to hear acupuncture made such a difference for you! I must bear it in mind myself too.

Just got the blood test for arthritis, in fact. Waiting for the result now...

I was pretty devastated at first, but as with anything, you can either let it hold you back or you can make the best of it. I was determined to let nothing slow my writing down and so far, I've been pretty lucky.

Good luck with your tests!

Good health, and thanks for the links.

Something that's probably far too low level: but I have heard sometimes switching to your other hand can help.

Thank you!

Yes, it's a good tip which has helped a couple of colleagues, I know. I didn't even used to use the mouse so much, actually, but now I'm trying to give it up altogether...

Sympathy for your hand pain (and empathy too, as I have osteoarthritis).

...but irrationally I was just as upset about not being able to write fic... Nothing irrational about that feeling I would say. Just speaking as a reader, I would hate to lose your writing.

Can I say an especial hurrah for your Man from U.N.C.L.E fics? I was mad about that programme as a teenager in the '80s, watching repeat showings. Your stories have rekindled my love for it. I so admire the way you capture the characters while absolutely making them your own.

I suppose I was thinking I don't actually need to write fic to be able to eat and pay rent... but I certainly do need it to be happy!

So cool to hear you've been rediscovering the Man from UNCLE! I somehow completely missed it on the telly, so I've only been watching it for the first time quite recently, when some new Region 2 DVDs finally became available. I was very pleased to discover there's quite a large and active fandom. And thank you! It's lovely to hear you've enjoyed the fic I've been writing.

Thanks. It's sort of died down to a manageable level now, thank goodnesses, after several changes in how my workstation is set up at work.

I'm not too sure what the correct terminology is either, so anything's fine :)
