I certainly understand where you're coming from. While I don't have any memories nearly as bad as the one you have, I share your distaste for pointless social drunkeness. While I had one occasion in which I had a bit too much to drink and I enjoy a spirit now and then, I haven't come anywhere close to being stupid-drunk. I often get upset at my friends for getting hammered only for the reason of getting hammered. In fact, a friend of mine got falling-over drunk for the first time the other weekend--and she enjoyed it. Much disappointment ensued. It's stupid, immature, unhealthy and dangerous. Naturally, no one listens or gives second thought to my opinion. Try as you might, you can't change people. They WILL do stupid things. You have to accept that they want to get sloshed. The most you can do is pull a person aside and express that what they're doing is really bothering you. Secondly, as difficult as it is, you have to give people a chance to learn their lesson.
