Delay of Game

Just a quick blog to say things are going ok.

Much of my time this year has been spent working overtime or taking care of Alicia and Jacob who have been having rough times health-wise. As a result, I've been limited to 4-6 hours of sleep each night for a few months. Something my moodiness, health, and practically nodding off at work and elsewhere tells me may be taking its toll.

This week, Jacob's high fevers are back. 105+ at times, but his bloodwork indicates there is no emergency, just that he's low on platelets. Based on this and petechiae, the doctor suspects ITP, which basically means he's forming antibodies that kill off his blood platelets. In most cases, it clears within 6 months. Thankfully, no injuries yet where decreased clotting is an issue, but its something we need to watch for (in addition to trying to keep the ridiculous "fry an egg on his forehead" fevers under control).

In the good news department, we had a nice little second birthday party for Jacob with grandparents and friends. He seemed to have a great time and loves his new toys.

I had hoped to have gotten a new camera at this point to resume my photography. I'm pretty set on a Nikon D40 as a well-recommended entry-level DSLR that I can make room for in my budget. Just a matter of finding time to find the best deal and assure myself this is the best choice of all of the options. All the same, I feel like I owe an apology to all of the people I told I would be resuming shooting at the end of March.

It seems like everything that can go wrong at work has been going wrong. Bugs in code added years ago are surfacing simultaneous to issues that require immediate attention. My own mistakes and those of other people are having large scale effects rather than remaining small issues. Computers are adopting inexplicable behavior that simply has to be worked around (ok, that happens a lot).

And Alicia's business is still fairly slow in getting started. We had a decent winter, but business has been pretty dry lately. We're starting to evaluate other options for her to bring in income between her health issues.

A while back I made a post asking "is it luck" in which bad things were happening at good times. A few people said that I shouldn't question luck or bring attention to it, lest it disappear. Guess they were right. :)

I hope things are going well with all of my readers and friends. I don't really have a light at the end of the tunnel at the moment, but I'm reasonably confident that things will work themselves out in time. :)
