"I still have a mortgage and a puppy to feed so I knew I had to get a part time job..."

So I was just looking at the "interests" section in my profile here on lj. It's funny how in just a few years so many things change (Adam Brody, Adam Rickitt and Jennifer Garner are so 3 years ago) and how some things never change (jerking off, tight t-shirts and the film nowhere are still some of my favorite things). It does seem like an eternity ( Read more... )

Have you seen the movie "Year of the Dog" because I think it would fit in PERFECTLY. It was my favorite film of 2007.

It's quirky and sad, but right up my alley.

I'll link you to the trailer if you'd like.

p.s.- I love that we're back to bff status. Summer bff status. sbffs forever. haha.

I'm racing over to the Boston Public Library website right now to put it on hold! I'm watching "Flight of the Navigator" and "Swimming Pool" next.

Yay to IBFFB! (Internet Best Friends Forever Bitch!)

ooooh swimming poool is fun! In the fall you should take part in the "too poor to travel anywhere foreign film festival." I can compile a list if you'd like.

LOL. I would like to do that. There are just so many loner/loser film titles out there and I love that genre considering I live in that genre!

Okay I'm 3rd in line to get that film you told me to get. I'll probably have it next week! Any more tips?

I can relate. I lost a great job back at the end of 2007 and got a different job that didn't pay nearly as much, so I'm working two jobs these days. I have my full time 40 hour job and am also working over 20 hours a week at Apple. It's starting to get exhausting. Now I'm having car troubles and it may eat into the money I put away to go to Orlando in the fall... cancelling that trip will suck... but I have a place in NH I can vacation at for free, so I may do just that...

the economy can bite me garyjr July 28 2009, 15:30:46 UTC
I read yesterday that companies are seeing a rebound in profit but most realize now they can still function at these new staff levels so they're not rehiring and people are still losing their jobs. I'm not sure when this will end. :-/

I assume you're too far from work to walk/bike?

yeah, we let some temps go at my full time job and have cut hours at Apple and haven't been rehiring at either job.

I live out next to Worcester and I work in Natick and Framingham, so much too far for biking and walking.

I'd love to live closer to work, it'll take the stress off my car and I wouldn't spend $50 on tolls.

but for now I'm doing what I gotta do to survive.

I <3'd Lars and the Real Girl AND Into the Wild.

I'd love to see more pix of the puppy play-place! I think it would be so cute to see puppies all strewn about passed out.

Ironically I watched them back to back. Into the Wild really got to me. Wow powerful. Even Lars made me a little teary.

If you have Facebook, friend me (garyjrboston) and I can give you access to my Bark Place photo journal. I take pics with my cell phone sometimes of all the dogs i work with.

I had totally forgotten about that movie Nowhere, but I loved it too! It starts to get sort of weird at the end, but still fun all around.

I'd love to have a more multi-faceted work life. One great thing about my field (government IT contracting) is that it's very reliable work and pays reasonably well, but it can get real soul-sucking real fast.

Hurrah for Puppies!! mdminsdca July 29 2009, 04:50:15 UTC
Congrats on teh part time job babysitting pups! Sounds perfect for you! :)

You may've probably seen them already but here are my 2 cents for your summer-puppy-film-a-thon:
1) "Lilies" (old Canadian gay film - kinda hard to come by, but I can get a copy to you if needed/if you haven't seen it...)
2) Just saw "Flawless" with Demi...I thought it was kinda nice in an old fashioned, atypical, simple / vintage-sorta way...some might find it dull though...)
OK, and I'll throw in a 3rd cent - ever heard of a movie called "Evening"? From the same authoring of "The Hours"...

AND NOW I will totally pilfer everyone's suggestions on here to fill in my "outta-school-for-summer-useless-no-good-for-nothing-not-working-and-loving-it-phase" before I have to start back into classes on the 24th of Aug...LOL
(and if you have any other suggestions, please feel free to sprinkle them my way liberally since I'm a total movie watching-ho - hehehe)

I've never heard of Flawless but I own Lilies!

It's funny - I saw Lilies at the Castro Street Theater when I lived in San Francisco - I lived within walking distance of the theater :) It was when this movie first was released, and I knew nothing about it (I love seeing art films that way - lol) and I was totally captured by it and loved it - I thought it was beautifully and well done, unique, and had a great story line...
It's ironic - I also tend to judge people based on their reactions to films I love and totally knew it wasn't going anywhere with someone I was "seeing" from Dallas when I shared this film with him and he obviously didn't enjoy it, and then proceeded afterward to diss everything about it :)
