Is there any advantage of using these kettlebells instead of regular, progressive free weights (dumbbells and barnells) for weight resistance training?
I'm far from any kind of authority on kettlebells, but my understanding is that they are more of a whole body strengthening than a muscle group strengthening. With weights, it's easier to say, bulk up your upper body, without working on your lower body. That separation seems harder to accomplish with kettlebells. With kettlebells, you're doing strengthening and cardio during your workout instead of just strengthening.
Another plus, is that kettlebells are inexpensive and portable, it's a cannonball with a handle, and while you can use two, you really only need one.
If you get a chance, you might take a look at some of the kettlebell videos on YouTube, and/or take a look at SpiritualMonkey's journal. He's the guy who got me interested in them.
