So now that school is done and I promised some kind of reflection on my four years at JWU in my last post, I figured I'd take some time out to lay it all out:
So, I guess I'll do this in a type of..year by year format.
Freshman year at JWU. I can remember the excitement leading up to moving into the dorms. That entire summer working for Eric, I can remember being so excited about being one day closer to actually going to college, the last few years left of school. Leading up to move-in day I can remember talking with Kyle and Pope about what we were going to bring into the dorms. I was always the one to bring the most retarded stuff along figuring I would need it. Much like my entire bucket full of peanut butter crackers, granola bars and nutri-grain bars. I probably ate 30% of what was actually in there, while the rest got stale. Anyhow, some things that stand out for me from freshman year. I can remember slipping notes in the ceiling crack to the girls next door with Kyle, mostly telling them to STFU as they were constantly loud at 2am. All-nighters were a weekly event for mainly me and Kyle after Pope left first semester. Started playing World of Warcraft and we'd get a little carried away some nights. It often lead to us two making a 3am trip down to 711 for some energy drinks and Hostess Funny Bones (<3). I can remember meeting Elvis. The crazy douche who kept net-sending the entire Xavier network and then randomly meeting him in the Snowden dining hall one night for dinner. Skating, time with A1 & A2, the occasional trip out with Rob on the bike. Professors, lets see. Russo..the man, Dr. Capaldi who was insanely cool. *JABBAJAH* man, she was nuts. I could go on..
Sophmore year. I remember meeting up with Shaun and Ryan in the parking lot of the Crystal Mall to head up to Provy and check out the apartment. My first apartment, man it was pretty exciting. The feeling of never having to rely on my parents or the outrageous JWU room and board charges. I only wish I had found a place freshman year, would have saved a good amount in loans. Anyhow, a few things that stand out include the trip to New Hampshire. It was me and Amanda's first real vacation on our own up to New Hampshire where I taught her to snowboard for an entire weekend up at Loon Mountain. First trip to Waterfire. Although the experience gets sort of repetitive, the food never does...gyros, delicious. The summer following Sophomore year was a really fun time. I remember our trips to the secret swimming spot with Shaun, Ryan, Steph and a very pregnate Vicki.
Junior year. I started working as a sales rep for HP where I made tons of friends. I never really realized how great that job was until I quit a few months ago. I'm glad to have some of the friends I met there. Junior year is also where wing night began. I can remember meeting Katie Marks and some friends there and wing night just sort of developed from there into a weekly event with more and more people. Me and Amanda's trip to Mount Snow in Vermont. Our night in the Golden Eagle hotel with frozen pipes, cramped bathrooms and generally sketchy environments. The CIA. I remember the excitement about hearing the CIA coming to JWU. Working hard to finish my site before the presentation and polishing my resume for the interview. The trip to DC, the tour, the polygraph test and how it felt to get mentally raped by a trained professional. The Orlando trip with DECA and all of the great times I had and the people I met. The summer of my Junior year was pretty memorable. Our trip to the cliff jumping spot I found on airabovewater.com and the video that resulted, great times. The one thing that stands out about that summer overall was the east coast road trip. Thousands of miles of driving, family, sightseeing, tubing down the Ichetucknee river in Lake City, FL. I can remember just being so relaxed and happy that entire trip and feeling pretty proud that we managed to take care of ourselves so far away from home and out of our comfort zones. Amazing time.
Senior year. Out of all the years, it seems to be the one that absolutely flew by ridiculously fast. I can remember going through the HP hiring process early on the in the year. Going in for the interview, meeting all of the team. Starting the internship and receiving my first paycheck. Finally feeling like I'm on the right path to my career and really learning some state of the art technologies. Taking that last Psychology night class every Wednesday after work and what a nightmare it was. Buying my new car just a few weeks ago before finals week and how it felt to work hard for months and see some true results.
There's probably a lot of things I'm forgetting and after re-reading this later on I'm sure I'll add a few more things to it. Anyhow, I had a great four years at JWU and although I don't think the education I received was worth what I'll end up paying back in just a few short months, everything happens for a reason right? We'll see about grad school..
I took Amanda to New York today for a belated birthday trip. We took the Metro-North train out of New Haven, CT. Arrived in New York City, Grand Central Station about noon. Walked around Times Square for awhile, explored some stores, took some pictures and then made our way to the theater to see Rent on Broadway. Although musicals aren't really my thing, I enjoyed it although I found some parts highly obnoxious. Afterwards we went to eat at ESPNzone right in Times Square which was pretty cool. Took the train back and got back to her house by 9:00.
Anyhow, I'm wiped. Off to bed.
