So, updates and stuff?

I think I need some stupidity to counter all that intellectual stuff in the last post. Handed in my last essay before exams this afternoon. It's a pretty special paper; it's an analysis of a chunk of the Malleus and... involves a pseudo-flow chart. I've never used a flow chart in a paper before, I'm wondering if it's totally out of bounds. I mean, ( Read more... )

Went for fantastic Korean with Jonah, 蕭軒 and 중연 on Tuesday. Thought of you. There was actually a pretty substantial vegetarian section on the menu, but yeah, that's here.

We were all speaking German. I tried to tell a story about geese, which involved my successfully describing a goose to Hsuan, who drew the Chinese character for Jungyeon. But Jungyeon didn't know the character, so I had to actually draw a picture of a goose.
Then Jonah made the most uncanny goose quack impression I've ever heard. In the restaurant.
I thought the nice little asian girls were going to will (and blush) themselves out of existence.

The first character of Hsuan's name is giving me heart palpitations. I am so in awe of Chinese (and can't fathom learning it to save my life).

I like Jonah. Tell Jonah I like him. He's Good People. I, too, would probably quack in a restaurant. Sometimes it's nice to have zero desire to follow social codes. And it's ok, blushing is a thing that Asian girls, from what I've seen, are really good at-- so good at that it really doesn't necessarily signify trauma. In other words, I wouldn't worry about a therapist's invoice being sent to you.

I wonder of 중연 dances well. I BET SHE DOES. Rhythmless white girl jealousy ahoy.

Yeah, they're still talking to me, still very impressed with my chopstick skills.(?) Jungyeon gave me a hangul lesson today. Apparently she's 정연, not 중연. Not entirely clear to me how or why. At least I got 연 right.
Terrified by chinese too, though tempted to learn some if just to be able to write on Hsuan's facebook wall. I've already had a fun there: I google translated a post of hers and posted a reply in german. She replied in german to me and then, for the benefit of the majority of her friends, translated both my post and her reply into chinese. I guess I'm just really jealous of people who have more languages than I do. Humph.
Speaking of jealousy- you're not rhythmless! It just always helps to operate above 120 bmp.

I should have caught that typo in her name. It's pretty easy, really. ㅓ is [u^], similar to the u sound in "cut", whereas ㅜ is [u], like "ooh". If her name were spelled 중연, it would be transliterated as Joongyeon.

And I am too rhythmless. There is nothing you can say that will convince me otherwise. I would love to know how to dance. Maybe I'll look into lessons.

Yes, you are jealous of people with more languages, which is totally absurd because you have quite enough already, 진짜. >:|

Yes! Smart.FM! It's a website to learn things, mostly user-generated content, developed by a Japanese company (currently overwhelmed with Learn Japanese content, but there's a number of languages and some other stuff, too-- I expect it'll just grow and grow). It uses research from... Germany, I think?... that is still relevant, and pertains to how the brain commits things to memory. So, for instance, if you're having a problem with X, X will show up more in the randomization of questions. And I went through all of hangul on Sunday, so I wasn't allowed to go over it again until today-- and it'll keep pushing it back according to an algorithm that will ensure that it'll be committed as effectively as possible to my long-term memory. It's neat!

I hope that's an "oh my" of agreement?? Hahahahaha. XD

I'm impressed. I'm still trying to learn both English and French properly and the idea of butchering another language (I'm speaking for myself here!) makes me want to curl up in a little ball and cry.
That might also be because my brain is currently full of statistical and economically related information.
*hugs* Good to hear from you hon! Don't forget to call/email/facecrack us next time you're in Mtl.

Yeah I'm at the stage of butchering French because I've been out here too long. Blah. So it goes. I tend to butcher all the languages I know, though (English excepted), because I'm shit at learning languages. I just happen to really love them.

See, your economics and stats make ME want to curl into a little ball and cry. I cannot even begin to conceive...

*hug*

And yes! I will be in town from 20 - 29 August. I will be in touch for sure. I am REALLY looking forward to it. I was just thinking about the Mtl phenomenon of relaxed dusk-time drinks on terraces, and thought of your place. Does your new duplex have a deck/terrace/balcony? I hope so. :D

Good, then we'll have you over! While we don't have a large deck/terrace/balcony, we *do* have a... wait for it... back yard!!
It's not big, but it's large enough for a table and a BBQ. So no worries, you will get to relax in pure Mtl style.
Looking forward to seeing you, then!
