Facebook is being fail, so here goes (don't let me down, LJ!):

What good books have you read recently? I wanna load up my new Kobo before going on vacation, and I could use some help...

TIA! xo

I tried to answer this and realised I don't read any books that I would ever recommend to anyone. I need to start.

ha! me too.
I read all sorts of sordidly specific theory shit that most of my classmates don't even care for.

Let me know how your reader works, though! I've been thinking of investing in one but I'm not sure how well it'd work out for my needs (obscure theory that needs high lighting/marginalia) not to mention, what it's like looking at a screen for that long :\

To date, I don't think any readers (at least, the "budget" ones) allow for highlighting or marginalia. This is perhaps a result of the current limitations on e-ink technology. I got a Kobo, which is basically a super-duper-simple reader; all it does is allow me to read books, nothing more or less. Which I wanted. A Kindle comes with some added features, like a scheduler and Wi-Fi and stuff (Wi-Fi would be useful for loading books onto the Kindle once bought), but it's also restricted to Amazon-specific DRM, whereas the Kobo has access to more books and more kinds of files (I would guess that Sony e-readers also work like this, but I haven't looked too much into them. But yeah, no notations or anything, though some work by touch instead of buttons so the doodling thing is probably not too far off. As to looking at a screen-- it's perfectly fine. E-ink isn't backlit, it's just like words on a page in a sense, so there isn't any eye-strain (it also means that, like a 'real' book, you need a book light for reading in the dark, hehe). :) I ( ... )

Ah, thanks for the info. Think I'll hold out til my books make it, or til I become freakishly less prone to squishing electronics in my bag.
I saw the Kobo at Indigo yesterday and e-ink BLOWS MY MIND.
