Not really but these are just my two cents about a topic called fanfictions.
I hope many people in my f-list will read this because I want to know what your opinions are too.
So ( here we go )

fanfic, rant

1) Anche a me piacciono le AU, se sono ben scritte (ma questo vale per tutte le fic in generale...), ma per alcuni fandom preferisco leggere storie ambientate nella realtà, piuttosto che AU. Non so bene perchè ._.;

*thumbs up*

It was interesting to read your thoughts on fanfiction! :)
I totally agree with what you said about being realistic, especially with AU - it makes such a difference when you feel like the story you're reading is actually (somewhat) possible. I like AU as well by the way. I used to read a lot of it when I was more into TVXQ and I always loved finding a really well-written multi-chapter! ^^ There were some that were just as good as any fiction you might buy in a bookstore, and having your favourite idols in them makes it even better!

I used to read a lot of angsty ones too (particularly EDs/mental issues) but then I realised that they kind of depressed me/gave me bad ideas.. D: Soo now I tend to read lots of romantic/fluffy ones ^^ And I enjoy some crack too, cos sometimes they're really funny!

But I personally am like DNW when it comes to M-preg... :S Not my thing... xD

And I pretty much agree with all you said on OTP/pairings/personalities :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts ^^
Yeah, I know!
I remember this Arashi AU fic about police and strange deaths and it was awesome!!!
It really felt like reading one of those mystery novels I love.

I like fics where you can read about "not common topics", like mental issues, anger management issues, physical inabilities and such, mainly because besides being a PA and an Interpreter, I also work with people who have mental/physical problems.
So when I write about it, I try to show as much reality as possible, based on my personal experiences.
I know many writers don't deal irl with these things, but I'd like a touch of reality in what I read

lol that's a hot topic.
I think the majority of people who writes about m-preg tends to identify themselves as the preg character, so it's like what they'd do if they were in that position.
So I can understand them, but just partially, because if you write something, try to make it sound like it's really a possible thing.

long reply is long XD

Yeah I used to read some that were literally the length of novels and had all these side stories and everything, and they were totally amazing. That Arashi one sounds interesting too! ^^

Ahh I understand where your interest comes from! Actually I have a friend who is writing a fanfiction that deals with issues like that, and she has been researching and gathering info for writing it for at least 2 or 3 months. She wants to make it as realistic as possible so she is learning everything she can about it. I think that's pretty impressive! It would be good if more writers put in that much effort, I think :)

Yeah, I dunno... they're still a bit strange to me! Okay, I didn't realise the writer would put themselves in the character's position like you said, so hearing that I understand a bit better. Would I be right in assuming that it's more likely to be older writers who have families of their own that would write them, then? Or am I being a bit stereotypical? >.<

Lol it's ok, I give long replies too ;)

totally agree, especially about fics related to specific themes (like schizophrenia or blindness or physical inabilities)

Hmmmm I actually think younger writers would write them, because it's like trying to describe one of their dreams.
For example, if a writer likes Pin, she might write about Jin (it's usually him) getting preg and describe what he feels/does/thinks as if she was in that situation because she loves Pi and considering Jin is one of the most used character paired up with him, she uses him to describe her fantasy.
I remember I read a fanfic like... 4-5 months ago... the writer was a 15 yr old girl and she honestly said "that's what it would be like if I was Nino" (it was an Ohmiya fic)
idk many old writers so I can't say if they write about it or not
(which makes me wonder: considering the average age of writers is 15-16 yrs old, am I an old writer? >> )

um...i don't really care as long as there's a good plot and the protagonist isn't too mean/evil. :)

lol there are some fanfics where one of the characters is a real asshole...
they just make me wanna beat them up and scream "why do you have to act like that?!" XD
*gets bricked*

plots are very important. as well as language. Im good with good plotted AUs. I have my OTPs but if well written, I can accept any other pairings ( ... )

I don't really read fanfics, I just can't get into them. but there are occasional ones that I do read and end up liking and they're pretty much one-shots. I can't read multi-chaps. I tend to lose interest with those.

for pairings, if someone doesn't like a certain pairing, then they just shouldn't read the fic. it's so damn easy. ppl are just plain dumb sometimes.

I've never read an M-preg one and don't really want to. I just can't bring myself to do it.

lastly, I agree with you about the OTPs and the personalities.

I can't read multi-chaps
I'm partially okay with them (both reading & writing) BUT ONLY if they are not too long.
Like 4-5 chapts are okay.
Or even 3 chapts + 1 one shot as side-story.
But when it comes to those 20+ chapts long fics my brain just go ... *dead*

mstzanicki August 3 2010, 22:53:34 UTC
maybe I should give those ones a try then.
I can't even fathom reading ones that are more than 10 chapts long... I just can't, the whole losing interest thing comes into play.
