For the first time ever, I kept a list of books that I read for the whole year. Some of them probably shouldn't count because they were re-reads, and I didn't include anything I started and then put down. Oh, and the last one shouldn't really count either, as it's pretty much a short story

Do you like a particular thread in the series, i.e. the Guards thread, the Witches or Wizards thread, the Rincewind thread, the Death thread, etc.?
Do you have a favorite?

I'm not actually browsing so much as finding an easy and amusing read because I can't brain all the time, LOL!
I'm quite fond of the Witches and wish there were more and I love the Death series...I really don't care for Rincewind (or the Luggage)much. That is, it's fine and I like being on the Discworld, but I prefer other bits.
Vimes, Veternari, and Granny Weatherwax (and Death, of course) are probably my most favorite characters. Which is kind of a hard distinction, because Death's granddaughter Susan and Tiffany Aching are these kick-ass GIRLS, which I like very much as well.
What about you? Have you read all the Discworld books?

I also like the Lost Symbol... up until the end and that was a total let down.
You have also inspired me to list the books I have read this year, although I think I will comment on each one.

what genre is it? Do you think I'd like it?
The only books on your list that I have read are the Harry Potter series. My favorite author is Jodi Picoult (and I've read everything she's ever done!) I like pretty much anything that can be considered realistic fiction (ie with people as the main characters)

If you like the style of Jodi Picoult but don't want to cry, I would recommend "Picture Perfect" or one that might be more your style would be "The Tenth Circle"

I just checked mine to see if they were loanable, but naturally, they're not.
Thanks for the recommendations!

Well, I have a variety of interests - LOL!
Actually, I didn't remember For Us, The Living, which causes me to think I probably read it for the SciFi and didn't pay attention to the politics. So either I read it and didn't care for it, or I didn't read it. At any rate, I was extremely interested in the socio-political ideas and have often thought about how much government would be needed in order to regulate economic stability, and also about how different live would be if all our basic needs were assured.
I've not read (or even heard of) the Liaden Universe. Is it similar to the Discworld? FWIW, I think almost any really well-written piece of fiction hinges on the dialogue for it's believability.)
