here i am, searching on Google for the phone number of the Shearon-Harris Visitor's Center, when i come across this entry. last time i went to the Visitor's Center, probably November 2003, it was also closed (3 p.m. in the afternoon). we drove out to the tower after hiking the nature trail and realizing it would get us nowhere near the plant - makes sense, but we at least expected an across-the-lake view. i was totally floored by how huge and ominous the tower is. we didn't go past the gates, knowing that there was no way to get closer
