[TR] for John Druitt, Kate Freelander

This winter might not have been the worst thing the island had ever done--in fact, it seemed mostly harmless--but it was pretty annoying, at least as far as Sam was concerned. Mostly this was because of the clothes. It wasn't like Sam didn't like to dress up from time to time, because she did, but not like this, in dresses with tons of layers and ( Read more... )

John had taken to wandering after visiting Helen. Seeing her again and being here again confused him more than he liked. He was free of the creature, which was absolutely a good thing. That was supposed to solve everything though. Or at least provide an avenue for what he wanted most, to be with Helen again ( ... )

It wasn't the first time someone had confused her with Helen Magnus, though there was less and less of that these days. She'd never heard someone sound so upset about it, though, and it surprised her. "No," she said, a little apologetically, turning to look at the man. "I'm not Helen. We just look a lot alike, sorry." She hadn't seen him before--was he new to the island?--and weirdly enough, he looked like like someone she knew, though she couldn't quite figure out who. "My name is Samantha Carter, and this is William."

William stuck his thumb in his mouth and looked up--way, way, up--at the man, but he didn't say anything.

"I- I'm sorry," John said, furrowing his brow in confusion. It helped that while her voice was that of Magnus, her accent was not. Still, it was uncanny. They were not similar, they looked exactly alike with the exception that John had never seen Helen looking so pregnant.

"You- I knew Helen when she still had blonde hair, and are dressed as you are now. I thought-"

He didn't know what he thought. That a younger version of Helen was here? That he could be with this version of Helen? Shaking his head, John gave a small smile.

"My apologies, Miss Carter. William. It is a pleasure to meet you both. My name is John."

"It's okay, really," she assured him. "People mix us up all the time. Trust me, it was a huge shock when we first met. We were both pretty freaked out. But that happens here, sometimes."

When he called her Miss Carter, she grinned. "It's Colonel Carter, actually," she said. "US Air Force. Not that you'd know it out here, with all this." She waved a gloved hand around in a gesture meant to include the clothes, the snow, the buildings, and the island in general. "But please, call me Sam."

William tugged at her skirt and she picked him up, settling him on her hip. He was growing like a weed and getting heavy. "So you know Helen from before the island?" He'd seemed a little agitated and upset when he first thought she was Helen, but not as much now. Maybe she'd just been imagining it.
