William stuck his thumb in his mouth and looked up--way, way, up--at the man, but he didn't say anything.

"You- I knew Helen when she still had blonde hair, and are dressed as you are now. I thought-"
He didn't know what he thought. That a younger version of Helen was here? That he could be with this version of Helen? Shaking his head, John gave a small smile.
"My apologies, Miss Carter. William. It is a pleasure to meet you both. My name is John."

When he called her Miss Carter, she grinned. "It's Colonel Carter, actually," she said. "US Air Force. Not that you'd know it out here, with all this." She waved a gloved hand around in a gesture meant to include the clothes, the snow, the buildings, and the island in general. "But please, call me Sam."
William tugged at her skirt and she picked him up, settling him on her hip. He was growing like a weed and getting heavy. "So you know Helen from before the island?" He'd seemed a little agitated and upset when he first thought she was Helen, but not as much now. Maybe she'd just been imagining it.
