I'm back to writing again. So, I'll bless you with a snippet.
Azkadellia leaned down to whisper in Garrett’s ear. “I’m sorry. I don’t want anyone else dying because of me. I can’t bring them all back but I can bring you back.” She took a deep breath, not sure if she really knew how to do this. It’s something that no can show her because it’s a one-time deal. There are no second chances to get it right. Even if she does bring him back, there is the chance he could still die from the wounds, which is why she must focus on healing him. She didn’t even know it was possible until she saw her mother perform the…she didn’t even know what to call it. Was it a spell? A trick? A sacrifice?
A sacrifice sounds about right. Using magic in this way comes with a price and she is more than willing to pay. Garrett sacrificed his life for her. She can surely sacrifice her magic for him.
Enough thinking, time was short. If she waited any longer, who knows the mental condition Garrett will be in. He could be in a headcase-type mental state.
She opened his mouth, the closed her eyes focusing her magic. She shifted to be close to his mouth before opening hers. When she felt ready, she said a silent prayer to any god who was willing to listen and the allowed her magic to leave her body and enter Garrett’s.
The gathered staff, both inside and outside the operating room, watched as a green mist left the young Princesses’ mouth, floated in the air before moving towards Garrett. Mason did not know he was holding his breath until Garrett’s chest rose and then drop as air rushed into his empty lungs. Seeing Garrett breathe reminded him to breathe. He stood stunned until Azkadellia stumbled back, a nurse catching her and then helping her to a chair. Their training kicked in and they were all at Garrett’s side to finish the surgery, mostly in silence with the exception of the occasional request for an instrument or sutures.
It wasn’t long before Garrett was resting peacefully in recovery, surrounded by watchful Resistance Fighters. News of what had happened in Central City’s only hospital was well on its way to all corners of the Outer Zone, and possibly ripple across the Deadly Sands. How would people react was a concern for those running the hospital. Would people be afraid? More than likely, yes. Would they rush the hospital, trying to get at Garrett? More than likely, yes. Would people believe that Garrett was now possessed by the Sorceress? More than likely, yes.
People were still afraid and angry for good reasons. There was still doubt the Sorceress was gone and this current situation will help fuel that belief of the doubters and the conspiracy theorists. Those same people also believe the Cains are working with the Royal Family to keep them in power. Somehow, some way the Ozians need to be reassured they are safe, a daunting task with the current climate.
A civil war is still possible, probably more so now than ever. Garrett was killed, a popular figure in the Unionist movement. The assassination attempt on Azkadellia’s life was foiled, possibly angering the Loyalists. Blame will fall on the Separatists for the attempted assassination, which they in turn will blame the Unionists or even the Resistance.
The Zone was divided into those three aforementioned groups and they were headed towards a war that would make the Sorceress’ reign look tame in comparison.
