I'm still here!
I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and are doing well
I've been busy working, which I'm still trying to perfect my time management skills. It's not easy working from home, there are way too many distractions (TV, Facebook, cats, etc.). On the plus side, I don't have to worry about wardrobe, lunch money, and gas for the car. I can also claim any expenses (books, a new foot pedal, and text expander software) and a portion of my internet and electrical bill on my tax return. However, for what I do and the knowledge and skills I need, the pay is still crappy. If I told you all how much I made last year, you all would set up a GoFundMe page in pity for me. The MT field, due to outsourcing, corporate greed, and speech recognition (which still requires editing, lots of editing), has gone downhill. I did come across an amazing text expander program that has already increased my production by 18% in the two days that I used it. On my first quality review, I earned a 99.65% accuracy rating. On my second review, I earned a 98.65%, mostly because of all the reports that QA could have grabbed, they grabbed one from a speaker I call "Ms. Runon." That report brought my score down, but I still earned the industry standard of 98%, so I'm happy. I was assigned to another account in August, giving me five accounts in all. So, all in all, I'm not overly excited about what I do, but it's better than nothing.
For Christmas, Hubby bought me a 27-inch monitor for work. I use two monitors and would love to have a third, but my laptop won't be able to handle it. Time for a new laptop then. ;)
Speaking of Hubby, he is recently getting over a cold he caught from a guy at work, who had walking pneumonia. Ugh. Why do people do this? The bank does offer sick days, so take advantage of it! While Hubby was sick, he passed it to me and I missed an entire week of work due to an upper respiratory infection. This one hit me hard. Hubby wanted to take me to the ER Monday night, I was feeling that bad, but I survived the night and went to the doctor on Wednesday. Monday night must have been the peak, because Tuesday morning I did feel better. Hubby's hobby in photography is turning into paying jobs. He was recently hired to be the photographer at someone's 50th birthday party. We hope this will lead to more paying jobs.
Mini-Me is thinking of a career in art. She's really good at drawing, especially anime. We bought her a drawing pad for her laptop at Christmas and she's already mastered using it.
My grandson took his first steps the other day! He's gotten so big!
Here are Cas and Sam, doing what they do best.
Sam is not very good at helping with research. The screen is whited out because I was working on a patient's report at the time.
I've been working out on the treadmill using the
Zombies, Run app. It is awesome and inspires me to get on the treadmill. I'm going to sign up for the either the 5k or the 10k virtual race. I do need to get back into writing, too. I need to work the creative side of my brain.
Star Wars, the Force Awakens...loved it! I don't see Kylo Ren as a bratty kid throwing temper tantrums. I see his so-called tantrums as more of the rage from the conflict between the light and dark side of the force within him. I won't go into more detail because spoilers, but he's probably one of the my favorite characters. There's more to him than what we saw in TFA and I think Adam Driver did a great job of making Kylo more than a flashy fighting Darth Maul, seriously, Kylo is a far better character than Darth Maul was. And people need to stop complaining if Rey turns out to be Luke's daughter and TFA being about another Skywalker. The movies are supposed to be about the Skywalker family. I'm just glad we didn't get another Jar Jar Binks. Not to mention, because of Kylo we got Matt, the radar technician. It's a win-win!
