A couple of months ago I bought a Mezraq for my DRG. I thought it was a good investment, not just because it was the best buyable weapon for DRG, but because the ingredients more or less indicated it was highly unlikely to drop in price. Thus I had an item I could if I wanted to sell off for something else. I bought Mezraq for 1 780 000 gil. Today ( Read more... )

While I agree that sometimes they don't think about the consequences of their actions, I can't really fault them for trying to add new gear that's an improvement over older gear. This is nothing new, just look at igqira weskit going from millions to 10k overnight and lots of other examples. At least in your case, the item got cheaper because there is now a better alternative, not because the materials/scrolls/whatever are easier to get (though your knife does fit this case). I personally hate the lack of real gear progression in this game so when they add something that's better than what was previously available (and isn't plain retarded to get) I'm really happy. I've lost millions of gil over the years on things that have devalued in one way or another, it's just something I've come to expect.

No I don't fault them per SÉ (pun intended) for adding new gear, but I didn't really see the DRG polearm area as that big of an issue. It's also not good from the economic point of view, because it gives people an incentive to hold on to cash rather than putting it in circulation... we don't even have any inflation to talk about to make investing in capital goods worthwhile.
