Of course, you could just get a new hard drive, but I know you have your heart set on another computer and nothing anyone says is going to change your mind (and rightfully so).
not sure...I woke up this morning and it was making ominous noises. I shut the computer down, cycled the power to the HD, still ominous noises...and it wouldn't boot.
I'm still not sure I'm GOING to get another computer...but it is very tempting at this point.
If you had any data that you really want to recover from that hard drive, then it may be worth trying to put in an external enclosure and trying to read it. It's a lot easier to ignore hard drive errors when you aren't booting off the drive. Also, I'm not kidding about this, it may be worth trying it at different orientations. Seriously, I have had drives making noises that started working after tilting them around.
