Well, technically speaking you were - until you decided to go on Study Abroad with that organization after UCBoulder rejected you.

Still, I imagine that actually having some experience in Japan is important for anyone majoring in Japanese, so in the end I think it's worth it; there are worse things you can spend your money on.
