Camelot had been fun, but really, there was only so much courtly junk a girl could handle before she needed some space from all the chivalry. If one more person bowed to her...

She sees him from a distance and wanders over slowly. He really looked a lot like Longshot. And then, in some ways, nothing at all like him.

"Bit late in the year for sunbathing, isn't it?"

He doesn't show his startlement. Instead he points up at the sky. "I am not sunbathing. I am watching the clouds. There is no point sunbathing for me. I cannot tan, and I end up with freckles."

He drops his arm over his chest and hums softly. "The approaching storm front reminds me Tellura Eight. The ocean there is viscous and rolls upon itself in its motions."

She looks up where he points, hands in her pockets. She's ditched her Camelot gowns in favor of her usual gear. Chaps were for any occasion.

"Never been there. I've seen the waves in the Earth oceans. Good surfing."

She takes a seat on the grass near him and leans back on her hands to watch the clouds. "I don't think I've done this since I was a kid."

"I had never seen an ocean until Ric took me to Mexico. We went to a beach one night, I believed the water was made of mercury until Ric explained it was the reflection of the moonlight making it appear thus."

He looks sideways at her. "Longshot is recoverd from his violent transformation back to humanoid?"

She rolls back onto her back and rubs the bridge of her nose. "I shouldn't have -- he doesn't know. Doesn't remember, rather. I'd spare him the loss a second time around, if I can."

"I'm sorry if I --" Oh how she would love to be able to complete a sentence.

"You should have had parents."

He has no idea why she keeps starting and stopping her sentences.

"You are worse the Julio for not finishing your sentences." He peers upwards, he's certain it's going to start downpouring in a moment now that the front is rolling in.

"Should I? All the Cadre should have been saved from growing up in the pens, but they were not. I am no different from them." Liar. He's completely different, just not in that regard.

"It's a human thing. And you are even worse than Longshot for having a fatalistic outlook on some things. You know that?"

It is going to rain. The sky's already gotten darker. She's compensated, unconsciously, by giving off a soft, faint glow. Doesn't like being in the dark.

"I didn't say they shouldn't have had parents, too. I was simply discussing you. Not the Cadre as a whole. Occasionally, you might try thinking of yourself as Shatterstar and not 'part of the Cadre'. You are allowed to be defined by who you are. You don't always have to be what you are."

"I have been called a fatalist before, yes. I am not. I fight. I once fought for onthing, but now I fight for causes." A small deception. he fights for causes when he can find them. Otherwise Ric has a go at him.

"It is not often I am told to think more of myself. I have- hm- a big ego. I thought only of myself for many years after I was stranded on Earth. There was no point thinking on the Cadre when I could not return. I regret not saving them for so many years while I did things they only dreamed of. Made my own food. Slept in my own bed. Experienced emotions based on more than the need to fight and survive."

The first rain drops hit his face. He closes his eyes and leans up into it. "There is no Cadre but what I remember. So I must not forget."
