Longshot had managed to get some time by himself in the sneakiest manner he knew. He spent some time working with Rivenstar. Since Alison was not even remotely fond of horses, it was an easy matter to get some time to himself.
It also gave him time to have Rivenstar jump the fence and race around the countryside with Longshot enjoying every moment of freedom that came with wind in his hair. He had let his horse rest for a little bit before heading back. After he had his horse jump the fence into the paddock, Longshot noticed the visitor.
He grinned and steered Rivenstar in that direction. "Hi!"
Slightly awkward turn of phrase, but it seems more appropriate than something formalised. His hands clench as though to hold the case he doesn't have with him for once.
"You were comatose? I was not aware you had suffered a significant head trauma." And this is Star behaving and not doing what he's been taught to by making a jibe out of that.
Longshot smiled and nodded in approval. He figured Shatterstar wouldn't need his help. Well, after the impulse was quelled to kick his son in the butt for just staring at Mordred. And there was another smile!
Well, if there had been any doubts about Longshot being Star's father, that smile blew them away. "And he's fearsome when he needs to be. His nostrils flare when he gets angry, and it feels like his hooves will pound anything into the ground. He's an excellent horse, though. Gentle with the people he needs to be. Though he doesn't like gunfire all that much. He hates burning barns even more."
"Most animals are panicked at fire and gunshots, regardless of intelligence, species or age." He looks back at Longshot, then grins when Morderd takes the chance to nuzzle the cheek turned to him.
The last buckle tightened and checked and gently tugs the reins to start Mordred walking out of the barn.
"Huh. I must not be an animal then," he said as he followed his son out of the barn. Rivenstar was still in the same spot, patiently waiting for Longshot to take the reins off the ground.
Before the blond Mojoworlder could take care of that, he had to get Shatterstar settled on his horse. "Okay! When you get on Mordred, you'll need to sit farther up than you would with a saddle." Longshot patted the whithers. "Settle down up here. It'll be easier to steer him with your knees."
Longshot chuckled. Even he knew that Mordred is not going to take that verbal command. He clicked his tongue in his mouth and called out the horse's name. He reached into his satchel and pulled out a sugar cube.
"I used to know the hearts of plenty of people. Today, I'm lucky to have figured out two. Everybody else is confusing." He giggled when Rivenstar nudged him from behind for Mordred's sugar cube. He pulled another out of his satchel and fed the reddish-coated horse while he felt Mordred take the other sugar cube. "Wanna try feeding 'em? I think I got some carrots you could use."
Star shakes his head, pausing to glare at his hair and start combing it with his fingers and weaving it into a plait. "Probably best I do not."
He offers no further explanation, just finishes pulling his hair around and wraps a tie around the end of the plait. "Knowing others is not easy. Knowing yourself can be more difficult still."
Longshot shrugged and rubbed the snouts of both horses. Then he gently yet firmly pushed them away so he could grab their reins. He led them over to a tree and hitched them to it.
"Knowing yourself is almost impossible when it keeps getting stolen from you..."
Star wanders after them, arms crossed over his chest.
"I cannot empathise with that. Mojo attempted to wipe my memory but my," he smiles faintly, "-my ego was was so large that it failed. I do understand the confusion of not knowing who you truly are though."

"How do you fare?"

"I'm not comatose anymore, so good! What brings you out to the wilds of Italy?"
Okay, so maybe he wasn't human...

"I came to visit you."

Star tosses the reins back over Mordred's head. He reaches up to put his hands on the horse and jumps, almost startling the placid horse.
He spends a moment patting Mordred's neck and calming him before settling where Longshot indicated. "This is correct?"

Pause.
"Not you specifically, Longshot."
