A thought

I realize I don't deal with past hurts to me when I should. Is that a human thing? To ignore what really bothers us and to coat it with day to day life until it seems like it isn't there anymore? ... Only to have my past come and attempt to destroy the now I live with apathy. Do most people move through life with seeds of emotional scars they never ( Read more... )

Not everybody. But a lot of people have emotional crap they never actually dealt with.

One of my favorite metaphors a psych told us, during a particularly frustrating time when I didn't understand why dealing with the problems at hand hadn't FIXED me, is that emotional issues are like an iceberg. There can be the visible stuff floating on top of the water that doesn't even hint at the un-dealt-with stuff. Which will come up in its turn, and have to be dealt with then. Unless you get lucky and happen to move your brain to the emotional tropics, where most people don't live.

Which is why I still regularly go to a psych, because there are times when my much-improved navigational tools still don't get me through all the icebergs.

Sometimes problems are all a matter of changing your view of the playing field. Hug.
