Firstly sorry this is such a long & kinda nothing post but as I referenced
Foxtrot by Genesis in my last post as always being a poignant album to me I thought I should elaborate a little or something :)
For those of you that havnt listened yet I really urge you to do so, also as a bonus it has furry/anthro coverart :D
The lyrics to the first song
Watcher Of The Skies, listed below, can say so much abt so many things, but all the lyrics & melodies just sum up so much & convey sentiments that at times really hit home to me, not to mention reference things very current now in general to us all, so guess what goes around can still come around & all that jazz.
Watcher of the skies watcher of all
His is a world alone no world is his own,
He whom life can no longer surprise,
Raising his eyes beholds a planet unknown.
Creatures shaped this planets soil,
Now their reign has come to an end,
Has life again destroyed life,
Do they play elsewhere,
Do they know more than their childhood games?
Maybe the lizard sheds its tail,
This is the end of mans long union with earth.
Judge not this race by empty remains
Do you judge God by his creatures when they are dead?
For now, the lizard sheds its tail
This is the end of mans long union with earth.
From life alone to life as one,
Think not now your journeys done,
For though your ship be sturdy,
No mercy has the sea,
Will you survive on the ocean of being?
Come ancient children hear what I say,
This is my parting council for you on your way.
Sadly now your thoughts turn to the stars,
Where we have gone you know you never can go.
Watcher of the skies watcher of all,
This is your fate alone, this fate is your own.
These lines from
Time Table I think are very apt to the current years weve all spent on this spinning rock thing too, tho always make me wonder what its all abt, why are we here & why the hell cant we all just get on, even if it only results in us agreeing to disagree its better than just shouting each other down with our fingers in our ears:
Why, why, can we never be sure till we die,
Or have killed for an answer,
Why, why, do we suffer each race to believe,
That no race has been grander,
It seems because through time and space,
Though names may change each face retains the mask it wore.
I shall pass over
Get Em Out By Friday as though it again has relevance to current times it just never quite seems to fit for me, tho does work in some way :)
The lyrics from
Can-Utility And The Coastliners also have a relevance to our times, the first verse or intro, especially its final line always hits me as something we should all consider:
The scattered pages of a book by the sea
Held by the sand, washed by the waves
A shadow forms cast by a cloud,
Skimming by as eyes of the past,
But the rising tide absorbs them effortlessly claiming.
They told of one who tired of all singing,
"Praise him, praise him."
"We heed not flatterers," he cried,
"By our command, waters retreat,
Show my power, halt at my feet,"
But the cause was lost,
Now cold winds blow.
Far from the north overcast ranks advance
Fear of the storm accusing with rage and scorn.
The waves surround the sinking throne
Singing "Crown him, crown him,"
"Those who love our majesty show themselves!"
All bent their knee.
But he forced a smile even though
His hopes lay dashed where offerings fell (where they fell).
"Nothing can my peace destroy as long as none smile."
More opened ears and opened eyes,
And soon they dared to laugh.
See a little man with his face turning red
Though his story's often told you can tell he's dead.
Horizons Is just a beautiful little short peice of classical guitar that really could be 10x times longer :)
The final track
Suppers Ready has melodies & lyrics which always move me, the guitars & harmonies with the organ build to a powerful part, then moves to a sombre section before a funny jump to a jovial part sub referenced as WIllow Farm, which has some mad lyrics tho some of my faves are the few around 'They're going to change you into a human being' ;) before the latter part which although has some religious udertones, kinda consolidates the album by simultaneously hammering home the sentiments & washing over you, its end leaving you refreshed & renewed but with many a thought or contemplation :D
Anyway, I thought as I was listening to it again this afternoon I would post a ctitique of some sorts & jus thought I should try to make moar posts here & this stuff seemed like a good follow up from the last post.
Music is always good food for the mind & soul, this album I think is easily a four or moar course dinner, so feed it, nourish it & fortify it :)
Much love & hugz, Gav ={[O.o]}=
