*Another* Dragoncon report

Sep 09, 2009 10:56

This will be the first LJ post in which I attempt to put pics in here.  It could be an epic fail.  Bear with me.  I'll divide it up by day and tell you up front that each cut should hopefully be image heavy.

I won't bore you with every detail of the day, but let me say that it was worth standing in the 2-city-block-line for 2 hours to see Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner.  They bounced off each other, leaving any sort of organization to the panel behind and make the audience laugh for the full hour.  There were moments of making fun of Priceline.  There was the moment where Shatner said "fascinating" and Leonard said "that's my line", only to be rebuffed by Shatner saying "just because your character says a word doesn't mean you own it".  Leonard then responded "but it doesn't mean the same thing when YOU say it."  Touche, my darling.

I then sprinted to the photo shoot for Nimoy and Shatner, only to be herded like cattle through the most unorganzied line ever to grace the face of the earth.  I refused to get grumpy, though, cuz this was Dragoncon dammit.  Anyway, you were NOT allowed to carry on more than a 2-second conversation with them.  You were NOT allowed to touch them cuz you might give them swine flu.  Seriously.  Walk, pose, smile, click, NEXT!!!!  Kind of a letdown, but what the hell.  At least Leonard Nimoy did a double take on me.  I walked up behind their chairs and he turned around to say good morning and then did a double take on me.  Was it my goofy grin?  Was it my shirt?  Was I cute (least possible scenario)?  Who knows cuz walk-pose-smile-click-NEXT!!

I then had to sprint upstairs to catch the remainder of the Stargate panel I was missing for the photo op.  I walked in the back of the room and was surprised to see Paul McGillion onstage by himself.  WTF?  Apparently Joe had missed his flight, and for some reason Jason and Rachel hadn't arrived yet.  Poor Paul.  He had to run that hour by himself, but he turned it into The Paul Show.  He was warm, funny, and flirted shamelessly with any girl that asked a question, speaking to each of them with his accent before answering the question.  He will be appearing on Supernatural this week and will return for an ep or so this October on Sanctuary to reprise his detective character.  Yay!  And for you from the back of the room......

Now we have to immediately run to the Dukes of Hazzard panel.  (No laughter on this please.)  =)  I *AM* from Georgia, y'know.  I have to admit the questions from this audience were almost more intelligent than the ones in some of the other panels!  Catherine Bach had gotten older, but so have we all.  John Schneider, on the other hand, is an amazingly hot specimen of a man.  Judge for yourself.......

Finally came the Battlestar Galactica panel.  I love this show, but am not fangirly over it.  Here's the best part when Michael Hogan surprised everyone with his unexpected arrival:

Now to the Walk of Fame where I meet Paul McGillion.  I had no intelligent question in my head, but I told him I was a veterinarian and asked if he had any pets.  He said his ex-girlfriend did, did that count?  He said he was neither a dog nor a cat person, but loved them both.  He then asked me if his panel was OK since he had to carry the whole hour by himself.  Why, yes, my dear!  It was nice to have him take time and speak to each person.  He is a doll.

I also spoke at length to John Billingsley (Phlox) and his wife.  Wonderful, sweet people.

Part two coming...........Saturday with Joe!
