I have a theory it could be bunnies.... No in all seriousness I found him kinda quiet in the auto queues and photo ops. Definitely sweet and friendly but also subdued and my theory is that he's actually kind of shy. If he's anything like me... and I'm probably totally projecting here... but I both get excited and nervous just going to cons. Huge crowds are a little scary and lets face it if you're the focus of all that attention... that must be kinda scarey. In the end though I always find myself enjoying cons and I suspect that overall he does too. Why he does it? Well I'm sure money is a factor. Unless you're a hollywood actor or have a really stable gig, life can be hard for an actor. he probably does need the money, but I doubt it's the only reason he does the cons. I've seen actors who were obviously just in it for the money - yes I'm talking about you Mr John DeLancie - and Joe's just not like that. I think he does respect and appreciate his fans while being a little bit taken back by and bewildered by all the (predoninantly ( ... )

>>my theory is that he's actually kind of shy.

IIRC he said in an interview (years ago) that learning the profession of an actor helped him handle his shyness better. So you actually might not be all too far from the mark. :-)

>>he probably does need the money,

Well, given his family background, it's more than likely that he's the one of the SGA-cast who has to worry the least about lack of money. *g* All the more gratifying that he does cons anyway and treats his fans in a decent way.

Ok confession: I don't know all that much about his background. I'm glad though that money isn't an issue for him. And aww bless with him being shy *squishes him*

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Flanigan *g* They even have the sources listed. :-)

If you think of his step-father's family - think oil, banks and beer for the last three generations. His step-dad was vice president of sales for Anheuser-Busch for the Western United States and also served on the board of the company.

An old interview, in case you're interested:

Funny detail: the first names of his parents are John and Nancy.

OK, thanks ladies. I just couldn't put what I was thinking in words. Deep down I wanted to think Joe likes cons on some level, but they *can* be a bit overwhelming. And on a selfish side, I just refuse to believe that his shy behavior was due to any rudeness or lack of wanting to be there. I just refuse to believe it. =) And now that I think about it some more, Pixiequeen, *I* get very quiet when faced with a daunting situation too. However, it tends to be in the face of a celeb, so when Joe's kinda quiet and so am I, hilariousness does not ensue!

LOL yes it was like that when I met him. I was so damn awkward. He was definitely trying very hard when I was getting the action figure shot but I couldn't string together a coherent sentence and couldn't drag my eyes away from his chest hair!
