The men are supposed to...?

Why, take out the garbage and demand dinner, of course!

But I can sympathize. My younger brother has two chores in the house; take out the garbage (see?) and put the clean dishes away. I, on the other hand, do everything from laundry to cleaning to making meals. And have been since the age of 7 (so did my older brother, although I was more diligent). It's a pain in the proverbial.

On the other hand, my name is on the lease, so I really shouldn't complain about taking care of what is my responsibility.

Having a life is a completely different matter. If I stay out past the intended time, I get a phone call. And I'm almost 23! Yet my older brother would disappear at the age of 18 for days on end and no one batted an eyelid. Double standards, I tell you.

*Sigh*

My little brother sits on his ass all day. Sometimes he does some work (e.g. move tree branches), but those are generally one-offs, and the only other thing I have seen him do are take out the bins once a week.

I have been taught to make meals, clean and do the laundry, but because I'm rarely there, I generally don't do much. But this really shouldn't matter, there are two people who seem to sit on their butts full time at home. Not to mention, when I was at high school, I used to do a lot more chores (especially more than my little brother).

My name isn't on the lease. And yes, my older brother used to do that as well. He'd call and say he wasn't coming home, and that would be fine. My parents ask questions, call when I'm late, and sometimes call to tell me to come home, because they want me home.

Double standards suck.

Let's boycott families until they dispense with the double standards, I say!
