Inquiring minds want to know...

I feel asking this but I'm doing a website for an author friend of mine and I was wondering do any of you all know some good web-hosting websites? I know all about the free ones but I think they would like a domain name that isn't connected to anything else, (so no www.geocities.com/[insert name here]). Does anyone know of any good ones?

Thanks,

My brother says good things about GoDaddy, so there's a second vote for them. I'm a cheapskate but don't really like the idea of my website being tacked at the end of a URL, so I went with Freewebs (though any free place will do), and then got a free subdomain from FreeDNS for web forwarding. It sounds complicated, but it's really easy. Let me know if you want to know more about it.

I realize I dodn't add the link in my reply. My bad...

So, after you get your free website (cheap-as-free.com/your_site), go to FreeDNS.afraid.org and set up a new account. Then search for a free sub-domain in the Registry that people have put up for others to use. They're some dumb ones but you can find some simpler ones like silk.com. In the end, your URL reads: yoursite_silk.com.
