I am getting a laptop next month I have a max of 2000 to spend

Depends on what you are looking for - gaming, school, etc? As far as a good stable system for school and stuff, I've had good luck with the Lenovo (or IBM) Thinkpad line.

First you'll have to survive the Mac vs. PC flame wars. Then Windows vs. Linux, XP vs. Vista, Intel vs. AMD, Nvidia vs. ATI...

Speaking as a recent convert, if you're going to be using it for class and surfing the internet, a Mac is more than good at it! ;-)

Well, there's no one laptop for everyone. Of all things like price, upgradability, size, styling, graphics performance, weight, features, ease-of-use, durability, etc, what things are most important to you?
