DVD to MP4s?

Dec 09, 2008 23:18

I'm trying to watch my favorite cartoon DVDs on my iPod and I was wondering does anyone know of some good MP4 converter software/freeware. I found a bunch but a few recommendations would definitely help me narrow it down.

Thanks,

I use HandBrake for things like this. It pretty much converts into any format and it's free. For awhile they only had it for the Mac, now it's available for Windows and Linux (don't know what type of OS you run).

Well well well, that answers the aspect of a GUI interface enabled program that I left open.

I'll throw in my vote for Handbrake. Though there was mention in the release notes for the latest version about removing built in support for DVD decryption. The website talks about how to handle this for Mac & Linux (not difficult). I don't remember if it tells how to handle the situation on Windows; I use AnyDVD for that (not free).

I have also used AutoMKV. It works (including decryption) but is far less user friendly.

Personally I'd go with MEncoder. It's not exactly point-and-click but once you get the command down pat it's pretty easy to use over and over. It will convert pretty much anything to anything.

If you're looking for something more point-and-click I can't really help there; I've never used anything else. Maybe someone else will chime in on that area.

SUPER includes Mencoder along with a decent GUI.
