Tornadoes

So on Friday we had severe weather. Not unusual here in Indiana, but still a bit foreign to this Oregonian. Jennifer (a.k.a. JWD) decided that she needed to track the weather during the entirety of our Gift & Estate Tax class in the afternoon. I don't blame her; she had to drive about 2 hours through it to get home. We were both considering not ( Read more... )

I've just read like 3 entries in a row from friends who ended it with some line that made me laugh out loud (in public).

Slightly more related to your actual post though- I was just chatting with one of my roommates yesterday about how I'd gladly take the rain we have in Oregon, or the expensive cost of living and traffic in CA, than deal with the unpredictability of weather in other parts of the country. We have nothing comparable to tornadoes and hurricanes out here in the west.

Yes- I did not prepare myself for the tornadoes. The second year I mentioned is from Cali, and asserted that earthquakes are better because either they happen or they don't; there is no build-up like with tornadoes. Another thought- someone I know, I don't remember who, was watching the news around the time of the Final Four, when we had similar storm/tornado issues in Indy. Apparently a visitor referred to the "hurricane." Now that we've offended the entire states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, the Carolinas, and all others that actually get hurricanes... Fabulous.

I forgot about earthquakes. DOH. Technically, Portland is in the 'ring of fire' so we're not really safe from sudden destruction either lol

For the record, seasoned midwesterners know to watch the weather continually when there's a tornado coming. DUH - it just saves you from having to hide in the basement for the entirety of the storm - which is a waste of time. Obviously, watching the weather continually is NOT a waste of time.

:P I don't think I said it was a waste of time... At least, it's no more a waste of time than me looking at $9000 Tiffany earrings I'll never get! You actually did keep me well informed, so, props (or whatever the f it is) to you for being my resident meteorologist on Friday.

Like the cooking advice. Another tip, don't fry bacon in the nude.

Tornadoes are awful. Earthquakes are much better. Sometimes you hear them coming but by the time your brain registers that it is a earthquake it is already on you and as scary as they can be sometimes, they always seem to leave you with that, "Whew! THAT was exciting!" kind of rush. I suppose that is what makes sky divers jump out of airplanes. During a double earthquake late last year your nephew had this to say, "We had a (sic) earthquake drill at school and they really made a (sic) earth move! It was so cool!"
