see now, this is interesting, cause the first time I saw this I was looking at the dance style, but then "ya hussain" kicked in, and that totally flew out of my head. It's a tempting chant, given the rhythm and all, but I'm still amazed to see it in a techno arrangement.....maybe it' s just cause it's not terribly terribly dour......

but yes, the Yelle one is awesome :)

literally it means "oh Hussain". In Shi'ism, hussain is the third Imam to lead the community after the death of prophet Muhammad. "Ya Hussain" is a chant that is really closely associated with the month of Muharram, which is the Shi'a month of mourning (commemorating the massacre of hussain and almost all his male family and most of his followers in the most important sectarian conflict in Shi'a history). So in this month, we have these nightly speeches about the history given at the mosque and afterwards, there's Matam, which is sort of a mild form of self flagellation (though a lot of idiotic young men take it to extremes), and there's like three or four different chants which always go with matam (it's like, you're chanting, and the act of matam sort of works like the rhythm section to the chant, cause everyone does it in sync, so when done right you get this really heavy, even, and slowly accelerating beat). I've seen islamic words and phrases used in rhythm oriented art before, but what's interesting about this song (besides the ( ... )
