it is strange...growing up in Australian culture I cannot understand the concept of 'tipping' as a neccesity. i understand that in certain countries, basic wages are so low that tipping has become an expectation as people rely on it to prop up their wages so that they can just survive.
here, basic wages are relatively decent (high compared to some countries) and hence tipping is definitely not neccesary or expected.
occasionally you may tip for extraordinary service at a restaraunt...but not anywhere else!
i must say it makes life easier not having to calculate 'how much do i tip'...and particularly when you are a student on a low income - everything is a lot cheaper.
i know if i went somewhere that tipping was expected, i would do it in order not to offend people like yourself though :-)
Yeah well to be politcally correct I should of said Canada, I'm sorry for that. It must be nice not to concern yourself with these matters and what not.
I also live in a province where our standard wages are lower then most of the other provices, so here it's just normal.
Yeah I work with some really nice women who have to really take care of their money just so that they can make rent for the next month. My heart just goes out to them really.
And I thank you very much for insight on this matter. I love to hear what other countries are doing and what other people think of this. =)
i always tip, usually much higher than 15% or whatever the standard is
one time i went to a restaurant with two friends and between the three of us we left like a 25 dollar tip because we felt bad becaues the waitress had to deal with us hahaha
