argh, I know about mindless busy work. I worked as the department assistant for two semesters, and all the faculty started seeing me as the "gopher" and the "random job that no one else wants to do" person. I even had to carry someone's coffee cup from a meeting once. Even though I teach and have as much right to the office computer/copier as everyone else, people would say, "do you mind if I just do this really quickly" and elbow me aside. I'm so glad I don't have to do that anymore.

I guess it was more that than the mindlessness of it that bothered me. I actually enjoyed the mundane tasks because they gave my mind a chance to rest and be creative. Einstein was a patent clerk you know. And many artists take advantage of mindless work to allow their creativity to flow once they're off duty. This could be you! Are you involved in other things/hobbies/activities outside of work?

Also, yay for the nonprofit org idea - that's cool that you have a contact. Hope that works out.
