but it hurts me

that someone complained about me at work last night.  Thing is, I knew they would from the moment they sat down.  They sat at a dirty table (with dishes) even though there were at least a dozen clean ones in the room.  I was crazy busy but forced myself to be as  nice as possible but they just had a hard-on and were going to find "something" to ( Read more... )

I've had tables like that and you're right that they would have found a reason to complain no matter what. It sucks that they complained about you though. It's disheartening to bust your ass and get craps like that anyhow.

As for picky friends, when I eat out with people like that I politely explain to my friends why it's not the server's fault, although most of my friends have been servers and know better.

most of my friends haven't been servers so i like to point out that the server is running around us and not, say, on the cell or joking with co-workers instead of waiting on us.

Ugh, sorry. I remember what that was like. No matter how much you know that they would have been that way with anyone and it was their shit not yours, it still feels horrible.

I had someone write a 2-page letter (typed) about me years ago. I was brand new there. It was Mother's Day. It was a shit show. They were merciless and acted as if I had ruined their vacation. The thing is, you can flip it around: if something as little as a waitress getting their order wrong or recommending a wine they didn't like creates that much drama in their lives, they are just deeply unhappy. It's sad. You should pity them.

i can live with them being horrible and miserable people had they not involved my manager but it's harder. That said, it's the first I've heard of a guest complaining in eons so I should be better able to shake it off.
