I looked up Mehtar Lam on Google Earth today.  That's where Keith is stationed until November.  The picture only showed mountains.  No town, no roads, just mountains, and a river to the east.  I suppose that's either because Google lacks information on that part of the world or for military security.  It's most likely a combination of both.  I was ( Read more... )

MY SON IS AT MEHTAR LAM TOO. THANK GOD HE HIS LEAVING NEXT MONTH AFTER 15 MONTHS. THANK YOU TO YOUR SOLDIER. THE BASE THERE IS NOT MUCH MORE THAN TENTS AND PLYWOOD AND IS CONSIDERED A PRT BASE. I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY CAN RECONSTRUCT THE AREA YET HAVE SUCH A PRIMITIVE CAMP THEMSELVES. THEY ARE REDOING THE COMMUNICATIONS AND PUTING IN NEW COMPUTERS AND PHONES FOR THE SOLDIERS RIGHT NOW SO YOUR SOLDIER WILL HAVE GOOD COMMS. IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
YOU CAN EMAIL ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE.

Hi, I just found your post from March 2008 on google. My husband just got moved from Kunar province to PRT base Mehtar Lam and I'm trying to get some info about it (because I'm always looking on line for info about where he is going - like you viewing the mountains, somehow it makes me feel closer). Any info you may have would be greatly appreciated! He was in the Korengal Valley which was very active (the site of the recent 9 losses, 15 injured in the 173rd, that was my guy's area), so I'm hoping Mehtar Lam will be a bit quieter. Anyhow, any info would be greatly appreciated - jen_hein@yahoo.com. Thanks so much! Hope your guy is doing well, there or elsewhere.
