I picked up four books from the great Hurley Books in St Austell. I talked to the bookseller by phone which made me feel like a character in a 50s novel. The four books, or pamphlets really, around 60 pages each, were in published in the early 1930s in the New Knowledge Series. Hyperdiffusionism always seems a bit patronizing to me; like ancient Britons couldn't possibly have thought of cutting blocks of stone and standing them upright without some kindly Egyptian arm around the shoulder. I can understand why people found the reflected glamour of Egyptian influence appealing, but surely not if it comes with the implication of such ancestral dimwits.

I'd be interested to hear what the arguments in the fairs book are like. It seems a bit of a stretch to leap from pre-Christian fair origins back to 2000BC, three times as long ago.
