Banned Books Week!

Sep 26, 2005 21:22

Its that time again! Banned Books week is fast approaching, and, like every year, here is a list of the 100 most challenged books. (The bold ones are ones I read.)
I encourage you all to do this in your own journals.

Like all good censorship movements, this list makes me want to read the banned books even more! Some of the choices are sad, especially the perennial banning favorites. Where's Waldo?, that's one I'd never heard of being banned or challenged.

Yeah, I can't imagine why they'd ban most of these books, but I got the list from the ALA at http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedbooksweek/bannedbooksweek.htm, so I assume its accurate.

Yeah, my mom gets the ALA and PLA journals since she's a librarian, and they have (or used to have) a running "Top 10" list in each ALA issue. Some books and authors make frequent appearances on the lists, like Twain, Steinback, and Blume. Where's Waldo?- there are no words to offend anyone, amazing.

I don't care what he wrote about. I don't care what he does. I don't particularly like him. But if someone wants to read him or Maya or Wheres FUCKING Waldo, they should.
And I agree. There are not enough books on midget wrestling in this world.
Also, bite me.
