It is such an over the top retail event. temporary stores devoted to halloween open up, and then kids go to malls now to collect candy, at least that is what happens in San Francisco. I'm quite happy to miss it. Some houses do huge decorations or elaborate haunted houses. I guess it might still be fun for little kids.

We never really celebrated it. Every couple of years we might get a kid coming to the door in dress-up but it always used to take us by surprise. I can't imagine they'd get many lollies out of it because nobody would be expecting them (though we always tried to dig out something from the pantry, even if it was as boring as breadsticks).

This!

Also: this year my friends had a halloween party, but mostly because we were all, hey, let's dress up. In previous years, we've had halloween at christmas parties, which ROCKED.

Trick or treating is just out, though.

At my former high school (Williamstown High) there were Halloween celebrations (including dressing up), in the name of multiculturalism and because of the large amount of North American teachers there.

I've trick or treated the last 4 years and haven't done too badly. In my area it's starting to catch on.
