Have a look at The Dish as well. I didnt suggest it initially because it is set in the late 60s, but it really does capture that Australian quality I think you are looking for (i hope) Try also Cosi which features some great Australian stage and screen talent, and maybe something like Malcolm, or Spotswood - all great flims and very quirky.

Considered that one too, actually! But I've got to say I love Chaser's and TGYH more :( (Also not sure if it's appropriate to give to a 12 y.o. Not that she wouldn't enjoy it. But perhaps her parents wouldn't enjoy her enjoying it :/ )
