dear author letter (hockey holiday exchange edition)
dear hockey holiday exchange author,
first of all, thank you so much for signing up for this exchange! i'm so excited that you're writing for me and that we matched on at least one ship; your taste is already impeccable ;)
general likes: i enjoy a lot of tropes, but the first things that come to mind are: team camaraderie/found families/families of choice, mutual pining, friends to lovers (and enemies to friends to lovers), magic incorporated in a mundane universe (i.e. urban fantasy, magical realism, et cetera), close-canon alternate realities of all kinds (basically what-if scenarios that tweak things about the world as we know it but stay in the canon universe, i.e. if one player wasn't a hockey player and the other still was), fake dating, woke up married. i love a good character study as much as any ship fic and i LOVE AUs. i love hitman/spies/espionage AUs, heist/conmen AUs, supernatural AUs where people are werewolves or vampires or shapeshifters or whatever, and when in doubt, set it in SPACE. I LOVE SPACE. i also love porn (preferably with a lot of feelings)!
general dislikes: i'm not a huge fan of most hard kinks (unless otherwise specified in the ship sections below), noncon/dubcon, terminal illness, self injury/mental illness/suicide, over-the-top angst, infidelity, and character death. basically sad stuff! i am all about happy endings and people enjoying each other. BUT if it takes some angst to get there along the way, i am not opposed; i can also really get into melancholy/bittersweet relationships as long as the ending is hopeful!
on to the specific ships:
→→→ carey price/pk subban:
i think my favorite thing about pk and carey is how well the two of them get along despite surface differences. you'd think their personalities would clash but they complement each other so well and like each other so much! there are a lot of things i want for them, including but not limited to:
1) single dad or other relative/kindergarten teacher fic (maybe something where pk's sisters also live in montreal and pk helps out with pickup and dropoff for his nephews sometimes and constantly flirts with their teacher? or PK AS THE KINDERGARTEN TEACHER you know he'd be amazing with kids)
2) youtube vlogger au with pk as the beauty/makeup guru and carey who makes nature survival videos and sucks so much at editing that pk takes pity on him
3) superhero au where pk is tony stark-esque and carey is his pepper potts (see: this video, particularly 2:37)
3a) superhero au where carey is superman!!! and pk is his feisty lois lane
4) the one where they both still play hockey but carey is a sentinel who has lived and dealt with heightened senses and instincts his entire life and discovers, when pk gets sent up to the show for good, that pk is his guide
5) canadiens beat-writer pk subban and still-a-goalie cp31! wherein pk asks cp31 outrageously flirtatious leading questions all the time just to see those dimples
6) *bonus: pk and jt91 wake up married in vegas after the nhl awards! pk is incredibly chill about it because he knows they're working on getting it annulled (maybe john's been in a long-term relationship with sam gagner or ryan strome or somebody and is very amused by it all). carey doesn't know this, though, and assumes pk's total lack of shock means he and jt have been in a relationship all along and doesn't know why he's suddenly feeling a type of way about it. cue a lot of weirdness and pining and misguided aggression @ john, which makes pk more than a little confused because they've always been civil/friendly in the past?
honestly, though, whatever you write about them would make my day.
→→→ mitch marner/connor mcdavid/dylan strome:
hahaha. why did the 2015 draft prospects fall into my lap and why am i now super invested in their success??? i don't know, but it happened. i would be super down for anything about this ot3 (or anything about the individual legs of it, if poly isn't your thing). some ideas:
1) canon fic that touches upon how connor feels about the fact that dylan's frenemies thing with mitch predates their friendship
2) dylan and mitch competing to see who can sleep with more ohl'ers during their draft year (they have a point system) (dylan constantly updates a spreadsheet) (connor is like what the hell, stromer)
3) threeway soulbonds!
4) slow summer gta adventures
5) connor and mitch (and ryan & matt strome, and the mcleods, and literally everyone) giving dylan shit about his gigantic hockey crush on john tavares
6) any and all long distance stuff set this year! how dylan and mitch feel about captaining their respective ohl teams this year, how connor feels to be away from it all and up in the Big Leagues, how they make (or don't make) it work.
i would totally appreciate gen friendship fic about these guys as well!

boston buddies/rivals!!! admittedly i do not know that much about ncaa/college hockey (yet!) but if you do please feel free to take this ship and run with it. my fave thing about them is how fucking loud jack is and how delighted noah is by said loudness (see: the nhl '16 video at the rookie showcase where jack spits out hockey platitudes like it's his job and noah keeps giggling). i also love the dichotomy between public school masshole jack eichel and prep school snob noah hanifin. specific prompts:
1) as of today (october 15th) i don't know how jack and noah actually met irl so anything about them meeting ~formally~ (aka not in brief handshake lines or on the ice) at the ntdp is gold to me. maybe jack's trying unsuccessfully to crash a frat party in ann arbor and noah is suave as hell and gets them in on his first try? THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER
2) "jack makes me better." discuss.
3) EAST COAST ROAD TRIPS! summer before college, summer after the draft, anything. one of my fave things about road trips specifically is people being forced into close quarters for long periods of time and therefore being forced to confront their feelings, so you know, anything along those lines would be awesome. also, can you imagine these two assholes attempting to camp?

aw man, these guys are cute as hell. kid roommates! who have taco dates with ryan murphy and go to ariana grande concerts together!
1) elias finding it difficult to communicate adequately in english and using taylor swift songs to express his feelings about jeff
2) adventures in driving to help elias pass the pesky practical exam
3) something about jeff feeling jealous when elias starts hanging out more with eddie lack and victor rask because #swedes and not realizing why it is that he's jealous
4) something about concussion recovery?
5) jeff the figure skater meets elias the hockey player at the olympics! there is boning. and unanticipated feelings!

ALRIGHT, admittedly this is a long shot, but i have been pining for fic since i first watched their interview at the draft. my fave grumpy judgmental kiddos. things i would love to read:
1) malcolm's "KEEP YOUR SHIRT ON, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THIS IS TWITTER" in the above video delights me to no end, and so did the workout videos that anna galchenyuk kept posting of alex's (shirtless!) summer training. so, you know, i would love anything about malcolm being super annoyed and super turned on by alex jogging on a treadmill to human by the killers, or whatever.
2) fic where they are dating and alex is so scared of telling pk, because how do you tell someone that you are fucking their little brother? what if pk is mad about it? malcolm is scared for the opposite reason (aka, he knows once pk finds out he's gonna be way too delighted, and that will be the end of all privacy for malcolm for the rest of his days)
3) the education of baby werewolf alex galchenyuk
4) alex being super embarrassed to ask carey price for advice on How To Approach and Handle Goalies With Care
