dear author letter (yuletide 2015 edition)
dear yuletide author,
firstly, thank you so much for signing up! i'm already super excited to see what you come up with for me!
general likes: i enjoy a lot of tropes, but the first things that come to mind are: team camaraderie/found families/families of choice, mutual pining, friends to lovers (and enemies to friends to lovers), magic incorporated in a mundane universe (i.e. urban fantasy, magical realism, et cetera), close-canon alternate realities of all kinds (basically what-if scenarios that tweak things about the world as we know it but stay in the canon universe), fake dating, woke up married. i love a good character study as much as any ship fic and i LOVE AUs. i love hitman/spies/espionage AUs, heist/conmen AUs, supernatural AUs where people are werewolves or vampires or shapeshifters or whatever, and when in doubt, set it in SPACE. I LOVE SPACE. i also love porn (preferably with a lot of feelings)!
general dislikes: i'm not a huge fan of most hard kinks (unless otherwise specified in the fandom-specific prompts), noncon/dubcon, terminal illness, self injury/mental illness/suicide, over-the-top angst, infidelity, and non-canonical and/or gratuitous character death. basically unrelentingly sad stuff! i am all about happy endings and people enjoying each other. BUT if it takes some angst to get there along the way, i am not opposed; i can also really get into melancholy/bittersweet relationships as long as the ending is hopeful!
for all of the following fandoms, i would be totally cool with fic that is just about one or some of the characters; please don't feel like you have to fit all the characters i requested into one story. more details below!
the man from u.n.c.l.e. (2015): illya kuryakin, napoleon solo, gaby teller
what an unbearably charming movie! guy ritchie has a knack for hitting all of my narrative and visual kinks and the man from u.n.c.l.e really did not disappoint. it had fake marriage! enemies to friends (to lovers)! found families! SPIES! and of course the crowning achievement: a totally killer ot3. i love all three of these characters and find them all fascinating. some specific prompts:
1) any and all casefic would delight me to no end. maybe illya and napoleon have to pose as the married couple this time. maybe mr. waverly sends them to infiltrate a base in siberia and at some point there is ~huddling for warmth~. basically all the tropes.
2) as mentioned above, i love heist to death, so i would super enjoy anything elaborating on napoleon's past as an art thief.
3) alternatively, an AU where they are all conmen and thieves instead of spies!
4) please consider: SPACE spies.
5) i feel like the obvious narrative route that the movie gives us is napoleon and gaby coaxing illya into a poly relationship (which i adore), but i'd also be totally stoked to read something about napoleon discovering that a permanent arrangement with gaby and illya is something he wants versus the no-strings-attached sex that he usually has when on the job. relationship negotiation revolving around the fact that napoleon enjoys sleeping around would also be welcome (no slut-shaming, please)!
6) an inception AU! would napoleon not be the greatest forger? (maybe gaby is the young, fresh-faced architect and illya is the perpetually grumpy point man?)
brooklyn nine-nine (tv): jake peralta, amy santiago, rosa diaz, gina linetti
i love this show so much! i appreciate pretty much all of the characters but obviously could only sign up with a maximum of four, so i would definitely not be opposed to the inclusion of the ones i couldn't fit into my request (terry, charles, captain holt, kevin, etc)! i would also be happy with anything gen as well as shippy for this fandom, as the friendships on the show are very dear to my heart. that being said, i would super love any permutation of the four characters listed above. my yuletide author last year did a great job with this fandom and i love the story she wrote for me, but i would never say no to more! specific prompts:
1) jake/amy: maybe casefic where amy's the one that has to go undercover this time and jake does... not deal very well.
2) jake/rosa: just anything about their cop school days and the implicit trust in each other that they've built up over the years!
3) amy/rosa: AMY FINDS ROSA VERY HOT! the next time rosa wants to hurt someone, she's going straight to amy! discuss. alternatively, a 21 jump street au.
4) amy/gina: anything about the two of them being forced to bond! maybe captain holt tells amy to enlist gina's help on some case?
5) jake/gina: gina somehow uses jake for a project in her abnormal psych class? in fact, gina somehow uses everyone in the precinct for a project in her abnormal psych class? alternatively, an AU where jake and gina have been secretly married since before college so that gina can actually manage his finances properly.
6) rosa/gina: the mutual but extremely grudging (and not often explicitly expressed) appreciation society.
7) rosa is the world's most stereotypical vampire?
fantastic four (2015): reed richards, ben grimm
ok this movie was pretty much terrible across the board, but i loved the friendship between reed and ben before they shot it all to hell after the first act. basically what i love about them is how they grew up together and were best friends despite their differences, and the incredible amount of loyalty that they inspire in each other. specific prompts:
1) anything that explores the nerd/jock dichotomy (i believe comicverse ben grimm was on the high school football team?), tall lanky glasses-wearing engineer reed richards and his best friend sports star ben grimm, whose bros on the football team are like what? why? meanwhile ben gives reed his varsity jacket even though it's too small for him, et cetera
2) i really liked the early camaraderie we got between the fantastic four and victor, and i kept waiting for ben to show up! i would love an alternate reality where ben is just always around during the actual building of the teleporter because reed wants him there! needs him there! ben crashes in reed's dorm like every weekend (and possibly bonds with johnny over being good with his hands? friendship!).
3) prom. anything about prom!
sense8 (tv): wolfgang bogdanow, felix bernner
if you couldn't already tell, i definitely have a thing for bffs to lovers. sense8 had the good fortune of giving this to me in the context of THIEVES as well, so you know, i was pretty gone once the show started flashing back to wolfgang and felix's shared childhood. therefore:
1) i would love any story that touches upon the two of them growing up together. i know we already got some of that in the actual show, but just more! i always want more because i am greedy.
2) anything about the many heists that they've pulled over the years! and felix's undoubtedly extensive shoe collection.
3) wolfgang obviously seemed pretty cool with sexual encounters involving dudes during the mental orgy depicted in the show, but what about felix? i love relationship negotiation and one of my favorite parts of the friends to lovers trope is redefining boundaries between people who know each other like they know themselves, so something about that would be great.
4) the alternate reality where wolfgang is a supernatural creature (werewolf seems the most obvious choice but i'm down for anything) and it's an added layer as to why his father treats him the way he does and why he is generally ~shunned by the other kids (except felix, obviously).
