dear yuletide author,
hello! thank you so much for signing up! i'm super excited to see what you come up with for me :D
general likes: i enjoy a lot of tropes, but the first things that come to mind are: team camaraderie/found families/families of choice, mutual pining, friends to lovers (and enemies to friends to lovers), magic incorporated in a mundane universe (i.e. urban fantasy, magical realism, et cetera), close-canon alternate realities of all kinds (basically what-if scenarios that tweak things about the world as we know it but stay in the canon universe), fake dating, woke up married. i love a good character study as much as any ship fic and i LOVE AUs. i love hitman/spies/espionage AUs, heist/conmen AUs, supernatural AUs where people are werewolves or vampires or shapeshifters or whatever, and when in doubt, set it in SPACE. I LOVE SPACE. i also love porn (preferably with a lot of feelings)!
general dislikes: i'm not a huge fan of most hard kinks (unless otherwise specified in the ship sections below), noncon/dubcon, terminal illness, self injury/mental illness/suicide, over-the-top angst, infidelity, and character death. basically relentlessly sad stuff! i am all about happy endings and people enjoying each other. BUT if it takes some angst to get there along the way, i am not opposed; i can also really get into melancholy/bittersweet relationships as long as the ending is hopeful!
for all of the following fandoms, i would be 100% cool with fic that is just about one or some of the characters; please don't feel like you have to fit all the characters i requested into one story. more details below!
the get down (tv): marcus "dizzee" kipling, thor, ezekiel "zeke" figuero, shaolin fantastic
oh man, i love all the kids on this show a stupid amount. i could only fit four of them in this sign-up, obviously, but i have a ton of affection for the kiplings and mylene and regina. one of my favorite things about the get down is the scene setting and the atmosphere, which baz is always excellent at. my preferred ships of the characters i ask for here are dizzee/thor and zeke/shao, but i'm cool with fic about any of them, even if it isn't necessarily shippy!
specific prompts:
1) i'd love anything about the aftermath of the party where dizzee and thor kiss: do they go back to thor's place? do they keep kissing in the club? when did dizzee get home that night, or did he sneak back into the house in the morning? the possibilities are endless~
2) zeke and shao are obviously on the same wavelength creatively, so anything about how they work together and play off each other would be awesome.
3) anything about thor! his world is so richly populated with an array of people, but because he isn't one of the primary characters we don't get a lot about that (fingers crossed for season 2)! the glimpses we do see seem fun to work with, so whatever you can run with here would be great.
4) in the flashes forward to adult zeke, he seems to be alone on stage. how did he get there?
5) backstory from when characters are young is my kryptonite, and zeke was clearly raised in a loving environment despite the death of his parents. what was it like growing up tagging along with the kiplings?
ghostbusters (2016): erin gilbert, jillian holtzmann
what a fun movie!!! ghostbusters was one of my fave summer blockbusters this year, and i love holtz so much. i didn't request abby and patty here, but i love them a lot too, and inclusion of them in the fic would be super great. i also love kevin, bless his heart.
specific prompts:
1) echoing one of the requests above, i'd love any backstory! erin gives us some of her own personal background in the movie, but i'd love anything about her growing up before or after the encounter with the ghost of her mean neighbor. i love her friendship with abby so much; how often did erin think of her after they had their falling out? how did she deal with her anxieties after losing one of her closest friends?
2) casefic is definitely well-suited for this fandom, so go wild if that is your jam! i definitely enjoy when settings come to life as their own characters in stories, and new york city has such a rich history. adding the supernatural element of ghosts makes everything much better.
3) jillian backstory! i loved the tidbit we got at the very end of the movie when her ~mentor~ comes to visit, but i am greedy and always want more. holtz is such a fascinating character, and i'd love to read a bunch of words about what it's like in her head.
4) of course, the slow wooing of erin gilbert by one jillian holtzmann. every time holtz tried to make erin react in the movie, i died. maybe if you kissed her you'd get her full attention, holtz. just a thought.
bonus: kevin wasn't in my request, so no worries if you don't want to write about him, but i thought i'd throw in a fic premise from kevin's point of view where erin and holtz are super obvious about their relationship and he is still super oblivious. they're like, making out underneath one of the tables and kevin's like, oh cool, is there a mouse down there?
pitch (tv 2016): ginny baker, mike lawson
haha. full disclosure: i do not know anything about baseball, but this show is super enjoyable so far, and i love ginny a lot. i just want her to be happy! mike is kind of a shit but - come on, that competitive work out montage? THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WHEN SHE WAS STRINGING HER TEAMMATE ALONG AT THE BAR? #hearteyesmotherfucker
if you do know about baseball and want to make that a big part of the story, i am all ears! i always appreciate believable and realistic scene setting and stories where the world feels lived in, so if baseball knowledge is your wheelhouse, definitely go for it.
specific prompts:
1) unresolved sexual tension that is eventually resolved with not-so-nice sex is the main gist of what i want from this ship. i am very easy to please!!
2) near-future fic about mike adjusting to retired life would also be intriguing. in general, i think mike being a catcher in the dusk of his career provides a lot of good fodder for introspection, so running with that would be excellent.
3) i love the contrast between ginny being hyper-focused, possibly to the detriment of cultivating relationships that don't have to do with her goals, and mike being sort of a ho. it's a good starting point for a lot of interesting paths.
4) if you aren't comfortable with writing anything shippy about ginny and mike, i also really enjoy mike being a super reluctant mentor. he's so gruff and irritated by all of the fanfare and attention but when it really counts he comes up big! he was her favorite player growing up and she had his rookie card! a story focusing on that aspect of their relationship would be great.
bonus: eliot isn't in my request so you don't have to take this into consideration, but i feel that something told from his perspective (about just ginny, or ginny and amelia, or ginny and mike) could be super hilarious.
zootopia (2016): judy hopps, nick wilde
i guess i'm a furry now? just kidding. in all seriousness, one of my favorite things about this movie (apart from judy and nick's disgustingly cute friendship) was the super thoughtful and thorough worldbuilding. zootopia itself is amazingly detailed, and fic delving into any aspect of the setting would be wonderful: the different districts, infrastructure, city planning, etc. and all joking aside, i would not be into porn for this fandom, or really anything above a T rating on ao3. i just want a lot of words about judy and nick falling in love or being platonic life partners. (partners in... law? anyway.)
specific prompts:
1) again, casefic is super well-suited to this fandom, and now that judy and nick are partners, that means they get to see each other all the time on the job. what trouble do they find theirselves in every day? how many godfather references can you fit into one story? the world is your oyster.
2) at some point, judy probably gets to meet nick's mom. discuss.
3) a story about judy becoming a godmother would be incredible! a lot of the side characters from the movie are great (i love clawhauser and bogo, as well as finnick). i'd read many words expanding on judy's relationships with them.
4) backstory: what was it like growing up with 200+ siblings? deeper exploration of judy's feelings about her family and where she came from would be super appreciated.
5) similarly, what was it like for nick growing up in the city? along those lines, i'm sure there are a lot of things judy doesn't know about zootopia that nick can teach her.
