I think a huge chunk of our problem in the US is we've given the insurance companies SO much power. I really like the Health Savings Account idea - it puts the power back in the hand of the consumer.
Another problem is frivolous lawsuits... and it's pretty easy to see how that can cause detrimental issues.
Our government - judicial and executive branches - needs to understand that ANY taxes, fines, or fees that they place on businesses, no matter what kind, are going to trickle down to the consumer.Example: a doctor that my mother-in-law works for refused to stop in the middle of a surgical operation to treat another patient who needed emergency surgery (heart attack); he instead referred him to another doctor who could treat him. The patient refused, and died. The patient's family sued. The doctor ( ... )
