Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Yuusuke has many physical and spiritual abilities and strengths. To start, he is very strong in hand to hand combat (specifically street brawling as opposed to real martial arts), feared by many of the gangs around his neighborhood. He can also sense the supernatural. He has a high level of Spirit Energy. Because of this, he has many different techniques for channeling it. His most utilized way of channeling spirit energy is through his index finger. It is shot like a gun, thus called “Spirit Gun”. It’s a highly concentrated beam of his energy that can kill some of the toughest S-class demons and should not be reckoned with. Building on that, another technique of his, Spirit Shotgun, is like the spirit gun but is released from his entire hand, sending “bullets” in all directions. The concentration is much lower than in the single bullet of his Spirit Gun, but it covers a much wider range and still does considerable damage to the opponent. His final spiritual attack, the Spirit Wave, is a very new technique to him that he does not know how to properly use yet. It’s a last resort type of move. It uses the whole body to channel energy and can use any part of it to release the energy. However, the best and most powerful way to use it is through a punch or a kick. Again, not as powerful as the Spirit Gun, but much more powerful than the Shotgun technique and covers as wide of a range.
Yuusuke’s powers canonically increase exponentially when he is extremely emotionally aroused.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? N/A
Weapons: No physical weapons other than his own body.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
Yuusuke Urameshi was always a name the smart kids around the neighborhood feared and the not-so-smart kids merely hated. Born when his mother was only 15 and with no father in sight, he grew up in a less than ideal home environment. His mother, Atsuko, is an alcoholic and a partier, who didn’t really care one way or another whether her son went to school or not. Yuusuke was always a trouble maker. He would regularly cut class and, on the rare times he did go to school, he ended up either in the principal’s office, or leaving early. He doesn’t normally go around picking fights with other people. He tends to be a loner really, not bothering others unless they piss him off, but if another kid challenges him, Yuusuke will not back down. He has never lost a street fight, even though he has gone against many other people at once, which is why he is so feared.
One day, he went to school and, after leaving early, found a little boy wandering the streets playing soccer. He told the kid that it was dangerous playing near the streets and to stop. However, as soon as the kid went away from him, he started playing with the ball once more. Yuusuke was beginning to walk away as the ball bounced into the street. The little boy was completely unaware that a car was speeding towards him. Yuusuke jumped out in front of the car, pushing the boy out of harm’s way, and in the process, getting hit. The next thing he knew, he was floating above the scene of the accident watching as paramedics unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate his body. Freaked out, Yuusuke realizes that he’s a ghost. When that happens, Botan, a shinigami, appears to tell him that there is no place for him in Spirit World because no one thought Yuusuke would die to save that little boy because of his previous track record. Not only that, but the little boy, as explained by Botan, would have escaped the ordeal completely unscathed, had Yuusuke not interfered. Because of Yuusuke’s selfless action combined with the fact that there was no room for him, Koenma, the ruler of the Spirit World, decided to give Yuusuke a chance to get his life back. The 14 year old was then given an egg. Koenma and Botan explained that Yuusuke’s spirit beast was inside of it. It would feed off of his soul and if he was truly a good person, it would hatch and help him come back to life. If he was truly a wicked person, the beast would hatch and eat Yuusuke’s soul, and then he would not have any afterlife at all. After a few days of watching the people he cared about, Koenma alerted Yuusuke that his Spirit Energy and his Life Energy, which operated in waves, would only be aligned the next night. In order for Yuusuke to come back to life, they needed to be aligned and if he was not brought back to life the next night, he would have to wait another 52 years before he could try again. In order to come back to life, life energy would be needed. To do that, it needed to be transferred through the lips, in a kiss. Since no one gave a shit about Yuusuke other than his mother, Atsuko, his childhood friend, Keiko Yukimura, and his friend/rival Kazuma Kuwabara. His mother was out partying the whole day and drinking, he didn’t want Kuwabara to kiss him, so that left him with Keiko. He entered her dreams and told her to kiss him so that he could come back to life. She dismissed it as all a dream. That night, she was in the hospital with her mother who collapsed from exhaustion. Botan entered her mother’s body while she was unconscious and told Keiko to go to Yuusuke quickly and give him life energy before it was too late. As midnight struck, Keiko was able to kiss him and Yuusuke came back to life.
After that, Koenma made Yuusuke the Spirit Detective of the Human World. His job was to do what Koenma told him to in order to keep demons out of the Human World and keep the balance between the three worlds: Human, Demon and Spirit. His first case was to retrieve three relics that were stolen from King Yama’s vault. After that, two of the three demons were forced to help Yuusuke. Their names are Hiei and Kurama, Hiei being a fire demon and Kurama being a fox demon. Yuusuke and Kuwabara then went to visit Genkai, a Spirit Energy Master, who was holding a tournament. Whoever won the tournament, the winner would be her pupil and she would pass on her techniques to him/her. Yuusuke was sent there because a very dangerous demon, Rando, was after a very powerful technique of Genkai’s. Because of this, Koenma sent Yuusuke to stop him. The Spirit Detective won the tournament and became Genkai’s pupil for six months, strengthening his body and his Spirit Energy.
After six months, the people in his town started acting strangely as he came back. Some of them would act like brainless zombies and start attacking others. Koenma told him that his next case was at hand and that he would have to go to Demon World with Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei in order to kill the Four Saint Beasts. They controlled a whistle that directed Makai insects to go into people and control them, turning them into mindless zombies to do the whistle’s bidding. The four set off into Demon World, each of them offing a Saint Beast, leaving Yuusuke to the last one, Suzaku. Suzaku was so powerful that Yuusuke expended all of his Spirit Energy trying to defeat him. Keiko was being chased by the mindless zombies who were going to kill her, so as a last ditch effort to save her, Yuusuke used life energy in order to power himself. He defeated Suzaku at the cost of his own life, dying once again. Kuwabara however gave up some of his own life energy in order to save the Spirit Detective’s life.
His next mission was to rescue an ice demon from the clutches of a Black Market millionaire named Gonzo Tarukane. Her tears turned into very valuable jewels, so she was being held captive and tortured in order to make her cry. Kuwabara tagged along because he took a romantic interest in the girl. After defeating many of Tarukane’s lackeys, Yuusuke and Kuwabara were faced with a demon pair, the Toguro brothers. They were hired by Tarukane to not only force the ice demon Yukina to cry, but also as bodyguards to Tarukane himself. After a long and arduous fight, the Toguro brothers were defeated. However, they were not finished off. A week or so later, Toguro threatened to kill Yuusuke and everyone close to him unless he accepted a challenge three months from then to participate in the Dark Tournament, a tournament held annually for demon teams of 5 to compete in. The winners each received one wish that would be fulfilled. Yuusuke would create a team of 5 people and if he lost the tournament, Toguro would proceed in his plans to kill.
After three months of more intense training with Genkai, Yuusuke meets Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei at a barge to ship them off to the tournament. A masked fighter comes along with him to form their team. Yuusuke falls asleep while he’s on the boat. After defeating all of the other demons on board for the special preliminary round, the Urameshi team arrived on Hanging Neck Island for the night before the start of the tournament. They were paid a visit that night by two members of their opposing team for the next day. After a small confrontation, both sides decided to leave the fighting for the next day.
The next day, while Yuusuke continued to sleep, Kuwabara started for Team Urameshi against Rinku, a young demon who used yo-yo’s for his primary attack. Kuwabara lost, and then Roto was next for team Rokuyoukai, with Kurama next for Team Urameshi. Roto threatened Kurama’s human mother, but Kurama was quick to the kill, using his plants to destroy the other from the inside out. Hiei then defeated Zeru, completely obliterating the other fire demon into nothing but ash. Finally it was Yuusuke’s turn. He woke up just in time to fight Chuu, a drunken Aussie that was the alleged leader of the team. He and Yuusuke battled it out until neither had any Spirit Energy left. Then, they took their shoes off, placed two knives close together, and decided to fight, brute physical force only, and whoever fell beyond the knives first was the loser. Yuusuke head butted Chuu and the other fell out of the knives, thus giving Team Urameshi the crucial 3 out of 5 wins needed to advance to the next round of the tournament.
For the next round, Team Urameshi was to face Dr. Ichagaki’s team, a demon doctor who experimented on humans and attempting to tap into their Spirit Energy potential. He used a special device called a Baruka that pumped a liquid into his human team’s veins. The liquid then controlled nearby cells that Dr. Ichagaki himself used to control the entire team with one remote control. Kurama and Hiei get tied up by two members of the Ichagaki team in the woods outside of the arena, while Yuusuke, Kuwabara and the Masked Fighter are left to face the remaining opposing team, M1, M2, and M3. Knowing that they were humans and were being forced to fight, Team Urameshi wouldn’t fight back. The Masked Fighter, revealed to be a pretty girl, used a special technique to rid their bodies of the devices and return them to normal. Dr. Ichagaki himself then injected himself with chemicals to get himself ready to fight. The team defeated him too and won the match.
For the quarterfinals of the tournament, Team Urameshi faces Team Masho, a team of shin obi who claim to be fighting “for the light” since they lived their lives in darkness, carrying out their missions with no one knowing their identities. Due to cheating by Team Masho, Team Urameshi was forced to fight them right after the Dr. Ichagaki fight.
A sorceress disguised as a nurse took both Hiei and the Masked Fighter and put them into a barrier, causing them to be ineligible to fight by the Tournament Committee. Kuwabara was too injured to fight, and so Kurama and Yuusuke were the only ones that could fight. Kurama decides to go first and last as long as he can. He first goes up against Gama, who uses paint made from his own blood to create seals on Kurama, effectively sealing his Spirit Energy inside of him, though he dies in the process. Next up is Touya, the Ice Master who takes advantage of Kurama’s sealed Spirit Energy. Kurama however finds a way to tap into his Spirit Energy: by planting a seed to one of his plants into his own wound. Using his Spirit Energy, the fox demon forced the plant to sprout, piercing Touya’s body as he was about to land the finishing blow. Kurama won that fight but nearly at the cost of his life. He continues to stand, but falls unconscious, making him eligible to fight. The next member of Team Masho, Bakken, decided to beat Kurama up while unconscious and then let him get the 10 count on the ground. Yuusuke was up next and swiftly put an end to Bakken, leaving Jin, the Wind Master, next. A loner just like Yuusuke, Jin and the Spirit Detective become fast friends, even though they’re fighting for their teams. After a long tough match, Yuusuke finally defeats Jin. He’s about to fight the next and final team member, Risho, when the Tournament Committee announces that the referee, on Yuusuke’s first almost-ringout, delayed the count far too long and the match of Yuusuke vs. Jin was deemed a double loss. There was no one left to fight except Kuwabara, who was severely injured and could barely stand. He, following his own code of honor, got up to fight. Risho proceeded to beat him up until Yukina, Kuwabara’s love interest and secretly Hiei’s sister, showed up. He then found the strength to defeat Risho, thus securing the victory for Team Urameshi.
After that, Yuusuke and Keiko had a talk out in the woods near their hotel. While he was out there, Botan snuck up on them and revealed herself after Keiko was gone, telling Yuusuke that his Spirit Beast was about to hatch. Koenma then showed up with the actual egg, handing it to Yuusuke as it began to hatch. The egg hatched into a small blue puffball that Botan and Koenma immediately began to make fun of. When they all returned to Yuusuke’s team’s room, everyone else then proceeded to make fun of Yuusuke’s Spirit Beast. After the people who didn’t belong in there left the room, Yuusuke climbed into bed to go to sleep.
Point in Canon: After the third round of the Dark Tournament and defeating Team Masho, Yuusuke returns back to his hotel room and is taken from there. Episode 43 specifically.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history:N/A
Character Personality:
Yuusuke Urameshi is an extremely lazy person. He skips school nine times out of ten, and doesn’t like to answer to authority. He can be seen as your typical badass or trouble-maker type. Yuusuke, while appearing to be hateful of authority, is actually just bored of the authority figures and believes that most rules that they enforce are “stupid”, so he is actually more apathetic than vindictive towards them, specifically teachers at his school. What sparked this apparent hatred of authority is unclear, although in the beginning of the series, two teachers, Mr. Akashi and Mr. Iwamoto specifically attempt to kick Yuusuke out of school because they believe he is a disgrace to their school’s reputation. To this end, Mr. Iwamoto frames Yuusuke for theft, hiding another student’s belongings in Yuusuke’s desk. Although the series does not go further into his past on this subject, it may be safe to assume that this type of occurrence has happened before.
He uses curse words rather liberally as well as generally opening his mouth to sink himself even deeper into trouble than he would have been had he kept his mouth shut. Yuusuke is the furthest thing from booksmart, but he is extremely street-smart, having basically grown up to fend for himself. He’s also very headstrong and stubborn. Yuusuke tends to also be very proud and cocky, even though luck has saved him many times. He doesn’t like to be wrong because this means he is “weaker” than the other person, which does not mesh well with his strong sense of pride. His stubbornness can also be spun in a positive way in that he’s an extremely determined person, pushing himself to the extreme ends in order to get what he wants. Also, while this seems uncharacteristic of him, he is sacrificial and selfless for those he cares about most. For example, four powerful demons, called the Saint Beasts, summoned demon insects to infect humans with the power of the Makai Whistle. The leader of the Saint Beasts, Suzaku, could control the actions of the infected humans with the Makai Whistle. Suzaku, for entertainment and in hopes of crushing Yuusuke, sent all of the infected humans after Yuusuke’s not-quite-girlfriend Keiko Yukimura. After a long fight and depleted of Spirit Energy, desperate to save Keiko, Yuusuke began using his own Life Energy as a source of power, finally defeating Suzaku and destroying the Makai Whistle. Yuusuke would have died had his friend Kuwabara not donated some of his own Life Energy to save him. Another example is his reason for fighting in the Dark Tournament-- if he did not fight in and win the Dark Tournament, Toguro threatened to kill him and anyone he cares about.
One of Yuusuke’s main strengths is that he’s incredibly street smart. He knows when he’s in over his head, though the way his mouth runs, some wouldn’t know it. Though Yuusuke whines and complains a lot, he does the work he has to in order to get physically stronger (he would never put that effort into book learning). His determination is also a key factor to his non-physical strengths. Yuusuke’s apathy can also be considered a strength because if not for that, his violence growing up might have been directed at people who didn’t necessarily deserve it. Instead, he really only fights if someone picks a fight with him, thus he doesn’t get in as much trouble as he could have, had he not been so apathetic.
Yuusuke has a lot of trouble keeping his mouth shut and that usually leads to him getting into a lot more trouble than he would be in if he just kept his mouth shut. Not only that, but Yusuke tends to be swayed by his emotion, most specifically his anger. He makes his relationships with other people so obvious that others can take advantage of them and use the other people to manipulate him. Yuusuke also tends to lean towards the dumb side when it comes to intelligence, though he is extremely street smart. Yuusuke’s plans also tend to be on the rash side, being too impatient to think of a proper plan of action before putting it into motion. Another thing, Yuusuke will only follow the rules if they’ll benefit him in the end. If the rules are corrupt or he feels they’re stupid, irrational and unfair, he’ll just do his own thing. He’s also a chronic complainer.
He doesn’t have any formal hobbies, but he enjoys teasing his friend Keiko Yukimura, being a smartass, and beating down anyone that challenges him to a fight be they human or demon. He enjoys a good challenge in a fight more so than beating the crap out of his opponent, but only if the fight is clean (no hostages or threats against anyone but him).
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Yuusuke, because of his aversion towards authority, will most likely not join sides with either company. Because of his proclivity to help those that can’t defend themselves too well, it would be best for him not to discriminate against one company’s supporters or the other’s. He would be willing to help those that are caught outside during the Darkness or aren’t in the most Darkness-Proofed areas.
Appearance/PB:
http://campinfinity.cs.luc.edu/Members/session1/group6/kristen/urameshi_pic Yuusuke is about 5’8” with shaggy black hair that he usually wears slicked back, only adding to his “trouble-maker” appearance. He has brown eyes and is usually seen wearing his green school uniform (though the actual uniform should be blue, but Yuusuke is ever the rebel). If not his green uniform, then just streetclothes, usually a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and a jacket. Also, he is usually seen beating someone up, whether it’s a demon, or another guy from a rival gang back in his hometown. He would appear in Siren’s Port wearing a yellow t-shirt, loose blue pants, wristbands, and comfortable flexible shoes.
