The Desert that Used to Be America - A couple of weeks ago

Oct 05, 2012 22:13

The inclement Sun bathed everything without a hint of giving the barely alive sand a chance to do much beyond lying inert as it had been for the better part of the last months.

It hadn't always been a desert. There had been plants everywhere, and roads, and maybe even a little town here and there. The desert had been somewhere in a horizon already forgotten by...who? There was no life there anymore. Even the undead, who seemed to be everywhere, were slow and scarce in the middle of the desert; they weren't entirely stupid, of course, and tended to gather where they could actually kill something, someone, whatever was still fresh enough for them to gnaw at. But there was life in the desert. It had just learned that staying in one single place for too long was the best way to join the ranks of the already numerous zombies; not the best prospect for the people that had seen one too many of their dear ones get bitten to un-life. Or just generally liked being alive.

One of those alive was also alone. A bad idea all around, seeing as how you couldn't really do a thing when a horde of half decayed creatures came at you, but then again, not everyone was Alice.

Even Alice wasn't entirely sure she knew enough about herself to be Alice, but. Details.

She had had a group. Friends. People she could, up to certain extent, trust not to get killed, or to get killed for the sake of others. She couldn't really do a thing to avoid them being bloody heroes if they so wanted, but it was better to be alive than to be a hero, she thought. Problem was, she could no longer afford to be around them, not when she knew something in her brain was not right. And no, it didn't even have to do with the fact most of her memories were not quite there; she had felt it, like a voice at the back of her head, issuing orders and putting everyone around her in jeopardy. Too risky, she had to leave them; they would probably live through the hell on Earth the United States was turning into.

She had to go away, and so she had.

Now it was her, her motorcycle and whatever she could find to stay alive. Not too long after leaving them, Alice had managed to break into an Umbrella lab and found out what had been done to her; apparently some satellites were constantly tracking her, and if she were to stay for too long around them...she didn't know, and didn't want to know. All she knew was that she would not be anywhere they could locate her. She would play defensive for a while, let Umbrella get tired of chasing her, if that was possible. She would strike when it counted. She had to stay alive for that though. It wasn't as simple as it sounded, obviously.

The gas station was one of many nondescript ones she had ran into when driving through the desert; zombies were usually around, but this time she couldn't find a single one. That either meant they had already passed through there or that they would be there soon, and Alice wasn't the optimistic kind of person that would assume the first. She did manage to find frozen goods, enough to keep her going for a week, perhaps, and a fuel tank she was needing sorely. She didn't expect to find a notebook in the counter though.

It was old and torn, and as she flipped it the pages were written on it with colorful, big words that talked about Fandom Island and how it was awesome, not even in this universe and how all kinds of people wen there to teach, learn and live.

And hide, she thought. She found directions to a portal -seriously, she felt like someone was playing a prank at her- and realized she wasn't all that far from there. It could be worth the jog; she knew that zone didn't have much zombies, mostly because it didn't have much at all, as it had always been actual desert, so she could speed her way there. She was going to need more food though. Sighing, she decided to keep the notebook with herself.

"I'll take Fandom over Umberlla any day."

[[ooc: Let us pretend I did post this like two weeks ago and life didn't explode at me eh? NFB, NFI, ooc is cool if you have it, although really, this is just setting the mood for her to ride into Fandom. Tomorrow. Probably.]]
