Since Becky asked...Invisible Writing

I mentioned an "Invisible Writing" exercise I'm trying in class in my 30 day meme yesterday. It is a free writing exercise I found in a textbook I was reviewing for possible use. Another way to get away from the "fix as you go" syndrome.

Basically, you sit down at your computer and pull up a new word document, set up your margins, etc. and type ( Read more... )

I like this idea. I'll pass this along to my writing group.

I can see the value of this (as long as it's followed by proofing/editing), but I'd find it nearly impossible to do. Not so much for the "vulnerable" feeling--though I get that--but I can barely write even a sentence or phrase without reading and rereading it to make sure it's right. When I find an error much later, that's terribly jarring to me.

Incidentally, I believe about 98 percent of people on the Internet use this method--without ever proofing or correcting their work.
