kindle - I finally got used to reading books on Kindle. The books cost about the same as a print copy, which seems kinda bogus but I can live with that. But the fact that one can't effectively lend books (2wk max, if it's allowed at all), and you can't give away your books... That definitely is bogus. I liked to give away my books when I was ( Read more... )

Glad you're back safely from Seattle. And amateur astronomy rocks! I've been into it for a long time, and just love being able to look up at the night sky and see it as an old friend. I wish you great stargazing!

Good to hear from you! If you ever find yourself in Tahoe, and I happen to be there (seems I'm there about half the time), I'd be honored if you'd meet up with me and gaze, conditions permitting. I have a tele now! :3

Reflector, 8". Celestron NexStar 8SE. More than I need at this juncture, but I was feeling sassy when I made the purchase.

Astronomy: Is this because of the Venus Transit, or the annular eclipse?

Neither. Although I did have an ideal view of the annular eclipse, and it was incredible, and that certainly didn't hurt.

It's something I've always been interested in, but never did much with. (It was my favorite hobby from when I was 7 or 8 years old, but I never did any real observing, just reading books.) I guess I did work for NRAO as a summer intern, and took some astro classes in college. (The astro classes kicked my ass, you science people are smartypants.)

It took me a while but now I really like reading things on the Kindle. Specifically the new Kindle Paperwhite... the size, look, and feel of that one is better than any of the previous generation. Page-turns are way faster, too. But Kindle has lame limitations, as stated above.

I too have a friend who has a Kindle, and as I looked in to it. The Kindle can handle more that just one file format. It seems it can handle pdf and txt files. Recently I found a forum that offers free electronic books, maybe you could look in to that.
